I ordered the MG42 plans and got the files two hours later. I can't open them on this laptop so I'll wait until I get back to HK this Sunday night. Fast service for sure. I'll let you know how they look.

Got them open... very nice plans for $10.0 and plan sheets have example build photos plus discription of what is required to make it into an airsoft MG42.

I watched the videos on his site. that looks suspiciously like the philippines. I've got a welding crew working with sheet steel outside my house. Seriously tempted to buy a set now.

Just bought a set. Thanks for the heads up kalbs!
The only issue i have with the mg42 plans is that the dimensions of the barrel shroud are wrong. In the real mg42, the shroud only tapers when viewed from the top. When viewed from the side, it should be more or less straight....

It is just a replica. I mean there are a few things diff about it. But overall it is a great set of plans for the money as kalbs said. Im pleased. It is just the ,..how would you say... shell of an MG42, but can easily be made into an airsoft rifle. No need for real parts. Unless you want. but in the plans are for just building i from scratch which I like . Again very good plans, if you have any skill a all and a little creativity you can make a jawdropping airsoft MG which will defanitly pass the 10ft rule. lol

So, what do yall estimate will be the overall cost of the build and conversion? Is it more or less cheap(under 200 dollars) or if you want the heart and soul of the buzz saw are we going to have to pull out our wallets?(Over 500 dollars)

I've sent the plans to the sheet metal workers who fabricated my PPSH parts. I'm just waiting for the estimate.

Hmmm. My steel guy emailed me back. His quote is around USD300 for the materials and labor. This is just the sheet metal parts, no airsoft internals yet....a little too expensive for me.

yeah, but like there's a readily available airsoft MG42 out there? Nope, there isn't one that's "readily" available. The ones that are are hard to find and cost more than a thousand dollars. I got the fabrication price down to around 150 dollars. The john tom plans have a lot of mistakes, but they are easily corrected. Besides, i can't find anyone else selling plans as complete as he does.

This to is my only issue. not tht its enough to keep me from building though. it looks amazing as is.

@germanshepherd - I just adjusted some of the dimensions. When i made a cardboard mock-up of the john tom 42, it looked a little too fat. I also watched oddball's metal MG42 video on google to compare dimensions he got off of his MG42 deac. I found out the john ton realy is a little fat and the taper of the barrel shroud is wrong. So here are the corrections i've made:
1) receiver is 2" or 50mm square instead of 60mm square 2) only the top and bottom of the barrel shroud tapers, sides are straight except at the very end 3) adjust all others accordingly.
You can build the johntom plans as is and it will still look great. But since i'm building it from scratch, i can be OC about the right dimensions.

For those who have bought the plans, does he should u how to make it airsoft? does the top piece pull up? bipod??? thanks!

There are no bipod plans included, unfortunately. Here's what i built using the plans as reference. Take note that i had to tweak some dimensions to make it closer to realsteel (see post above) and that i made my own plans for a grip stick to fit the motor of the version 3 gearbox i used. I also used realsteel sights, cocking handle, and bipod. Check out the build thread here: ww2aa.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=armoryarchives&action=display&thread=8200
