I've been looking around for helmets, and the only ones that seem to be sold online are *pristine* examples (top pots, ATF, etc.)
Is there anybody who sells beaters, cheap repros, or is ebay the best way to go?

I'd be careful what you buy off ebay. If you can find a militaria show near you, if you spend some time looking you may be able to find something.

I think Gun shows, Military Shows, and and reenactments are the best places to get them for cheap. But if you want to do it online eBay is the best place to get them for cheap. Always look on the WWII Forum good deals come up all the time on there you just have to be patient

Those wellprotectedgi helmets look very good, look pretty close, better than the ATF economy ones for sure.
I'll probably get one of those, but I'll keep an eye out on the forums, ebay seems to be a little low at the moment.

With Ebay, deals can pop up at any time. The thing is if you are willing to wait. It could be minutes to find one, or days. I would go with Well Protected GI because, aren't you going to the Mignano Gap game? I wouldn't want to sit around and wait.

Yeah, I'll probably get that. The Anzio helmet, would be acceptable for the 43' paratroop impression. I forget where, but some paratroopers got paratrooper liners but plain ol' M1 shells.
I'll have to dig up that article.

If ya want a really cheap M1 buy a dutch M1 helmet for about $20. Its the same thing as a ww2 M1 swivle bale but made by the dutch. Simply add a new liner, straps and paint it and your good to go.

I think you can get a swivel bail for cheap on eBay. The thing that goes for a lot is front seams.

"These helmets have been repainted, with correct shell khaki straps added, and leather liner straps. All of them are correct from the exterior. The shells are all postwar or NATO rear seam swivel bail and may have some small dents in them. I try to specify this with all of them before selling them to you."
You could get Front Seam Fixed Bale helmets off of eBay for cheaper than the Dutch knock offs they are selling. I am sure they are good to do buisness with Medic, but the product and price are terrible.

With something like a Helmet, shipping has to be a factor doesn't it?

you can also get swivel bale helmets at a local military surplus store, they'll be the old 60's-80's helmet with the o.d. chinstrap and liner, they probably won't come with that leather sweat band thing (i don't know what it's called) but a vet I talked to said alot of guy's didn't wear them because they dried up, cracked off, and pretty much disenagrated.

I know the hardcore guys will pee themselves over this but, I find the real steel heavy as hell for just playing some airsoft. I'm airsoft first, living history later. I enjoy shooting my friends w/ little white BB's and it's even more fun when they look like SS. Anyway, www.cushmanpaintball.com/GIHelmetPage.html-B

Doesn't use a real liner uses a nylon snap buckle that is glued to the shell.

If you REALLY cant stand wearing a helmet, wear a Jeep cap. Don't waste your money on that. To get them to look passable, I have heard they require a lot of work.

Look why can't you wear a real one. They aren't that heavy. If you want you could get a Cushman paint it, get WWII helmet straps from At the Front and then buy a liner and it would look ok. But it would end up costing $40 and you could get an original WWII one for that much.

This is a little out of subject, but I didn't wanna start a new thread...anyway, how many corks do I need to re-cork a helmet, I have two standard bottle corks; is that enough?

Judging by the direction this thread has gone, I'm assuming this is mostly for US Helmets. But for any axis guys, Germanhelmetsinc.com was were I got mine. $200 for an original M42 shell with new liner and a really sweet field gray textured paint job.

Id just like to point out that if your not used to wearing soemthign heavy, and wear something heavy for a few hours (upwards of 6) you can actually screw up the muscles in your neck....
Im actually thinkign bout going cushmans too just for the weight. Like the guy above said, airsoft first, living history second.
But then again im the dude who created the budget airborne thread lol....

Wear it for a few hours on weekends, on your riding lawnmower or something. My neck was fine.
