This is about the cheapest and easiest way to repair a broken Thompson M1a1 barrel. You need to apply only a VERY SMALL amount of epoxy to the trunion of the receiver. I apply a thin film using a toothpick. Avoid getting any epoxy on the inside of the receiver and contact with the inner barrel. Stand the gun up to let dry overnight. If you ever need to remove the barrel. Loosen the barrel set screw and use a hair dryer or heat gun to warm up barrel and gently twist it off. Scrape off excess epoxy residue from the trunion. Use a scotch-brite pad to remove excess epoxy residue on the inside of the barrel. Here is a link to a complete Thompson Manual. www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/?filnavn=/articles/manuals/tokyomarui/m1a1/index.html///ed///

Here's what I did:

Should be pretty clear. I used flat iron bars for the project and they have held up just fine. The handguard has to be filed a bit to make the new part fit, but this is a minor job. You might want to put some locktite to the screws too. If you want absolute durability, do the epoxy mod too.

you still aren't fixing the situation that leads to these parts breaking,i.e. the fact that the barrel mounting design is very poorly set up to take the stresses ofr the weapon being used with a sling.
i have done your method, with a better set screw added, when my barrel mount first gave out and it didn't last more than 3-4 games before the thin metal of the barrel mounting section of the reciever gave way again... i found that Schmitty's method with the 1/2 inch electrical conduit works much better and sovles the load bearing problems inherent in the original design..takes less time too..

I have...reinforced with JB weld, it broke, I jammed a piece of conduit into the receiver to support the barrel and the JB welded in place, came loose. Finally that wonderful red goo called Locktite did the trick.

Does anyone make a kit to fix the barrel?

Yes, several apparently. Use the search function and dig through the forum.

I had the mounting of where the outer barrel goes to the receiver brake off. Not my doing, last time I ever lend out my AS guns. Anyway I designed a new bracket and had the shop where I work make it. It's back together and is stronger than before. I know this may not be the same problem in this thread, but it was a broken barrel. I have the drawings of the new mount and most shops will not charge much to do this. I will send out copies of the drawings to WWII AS guys free. PM me.
