Approval has been kindly granted again for a return visit to Fort McCoy Wisconsin for the MOA's (Midwest Ostfront Association) summer event.
The dates approved are August 5-7. We will be determining the playing area and many other details in future posts but I did want to put out that we are a "go" on those dates at the Fort.
Like last year, persons arriving MUST possess valid legal identification and vehicle owners MUST possess vehicle registration papers, proof of insurance and have up to date registration plates. We will likely be acquiring a large barracks again for those wanting to camp in luxury.
The particular missions and scenarios will be detailed in future posts. Much of that is always based on attendance and so to that end, please PM either Ersatzjack or ersatzjack2 your board name and/or real name, your impression, your weapon, and rsvp early for this one if you plan on attending. You can PM either of us on either these boards or the MOA boards at ostfrontairsoft.com.
Last year we played on a large compass course and it was a warm day. Lots of fun and possibilities at Fort McCoy and this year experience will ensure even a better event. The Russian ba64, the German Pak and one German vehicle will make a repeat appearance. Get those rsvp's in and stay tuned for updates. Thanks.

I wish I had an Ostfront impression for this one.
What's the age requirement? And can I wear my 2nd Rangers impression (Sgt.) as a partisan?

If you have a WW2 uniform impression you will not be turned away. We have always allowed that save for one event. If you're Italian, Japanese, Finnish, U.S. or whatever, go ahead and wear it. However, since it is an ostfront event we prefer either German, Soviet, or civilian of the period and guidelines are posted on the MOA site. If you are new we only ask that your impression improve with time.
Age limit is 16-17 with signed parental waiver available on the ostfrontairsoft website. Under 16 is allowed as long as you are with an adult related to you. Under 13 not allowed.

Ok, well I am 15 so, a year and I can go myself. But this year maybe my dad will drive me out. Who knows, he might even play?
As for the impression, I'm glad you allow those other impressions. But I certainly will go Soviet soon enough!

Soviet is a great impression right now. Lot's of commercial gun choices out there. The Zeta-Labs Mosin sniper and three manufacturers of PPsh-41. Or you can use a captured German weapon or a lend-lease Tommy. Uniforms are reasonably priced too. Pretty easy to get a Soviet impression going.

Attendance is approaching 40 players so keep those rsvp's coming in. Looks like a healthy turnout in the making.

I am pretty sure they will be allowed. It really depends on fire conditions and I don't know that till event day. All biodegradable stuff too. If we police up the cardboard that will help too.

jcon - There is a big contingent of Chicago area players coming up who are with the 6th SS. I know that some of them monitor these boards and might PM you if you need a ride and they care to accommodate you. But I know that they are already bringing several players who need a ride already and don't want to speak for them.

My fine good gentlemen: Please put me down tentatively for a Russian Partisan. I will have 1940’s civilian clothes and a PPSH-41 or Lend-Lease Thompson. I say tentatively because I’m involved in a law suite that should be over with a hearing scheduled for July 31st. We will see if that holds true. Please see the pic from our sojourn south to be French resistance for OP Dragoon last year. I'm the stout one with the white beard I’m sorry I did not make the Nashville event to meet you fine fellows in June. As a historical reenactor and member of the HRS, I am very familiar with Ft. McCoy and you guys should be very proud to have it as a site. I’d also like to stay in the barracks if possible. I will also see if I can get some of my comrades to attend with me.

whiterook - okay you are tentatively added. I guess I need to post this update so no one else plans on a barracks this go around. A little update. I am really impressed with the battle area which I took a look at this week. In my opinion this is a far nicer area than last year in terms of mobility. Good amount of open area with light cover, relatively flat, interlaced with roads and paths and surrounded on all sides by a very definable border. There is blacktop road on two sides and the rest is bordered by an improved dirt/gravel road so that you just can't stray out of the area and that's nice. It has an abundance of pine forest as well both groomed and not so groomed with mature larger trees. I can only say I was impressed and could look nowhere without smiling at the tactical possibilities. It will be easier to traverse for sure. As far as a barracks goes -- it looks like I might still swing a small building for water and electricity but better plan on that not happening. We are going to be camping this year. Again, there is some nice land to build camps on. Also, by leaving our ops area and going a couple blocks down one of the blacktop roads there is a nice picnic area and if not occupied we can probably go there to rest up after Saturday battle. I am working on getting some nice detailed maps of the area we will use and will give directions as we get closer. This map is armored car heaven. It will give ba64 a chance to show off his skills. Yeah, I am getting excited about this one. One last thing - we shouldn't have any conflicts with other land users. This site is pretty much isolated, but still very easy to drive to. Since we won't be on the main base, we don't have the problems of getting on and off. That's nice too. But we'll still be able to go on in groups for pizza or snacks if we want on Sat nite.

Directions
Google Maps "Sparta, WI"
NE of Sparta you will see the La Crosse River State fishery area shown on the map and South of that is Ft. McCoy/Sparta Airport.
Look for Hwy 21 which is the main State Hwy that goes E/W in front of Ft. McCoy and find Ginger Road (you'll have to zoom down).
Going South on Ginger you will right away cross a set of railroad tracks and then look for the first gravel/dirt road on your right and turn in there. That's B-13. We'll be camped somewhere along that road or right off the road as you drive down it. If you are interested and see Middle Ave (unimproved dirt path) then you know where B-13 is. It is the area surrounded by all the other roads seen.
Getting to Sparta and Ginger Road I will leave to you people.

This past weekend several MOA members attended Gryphon's Freefall V at the APOC paintball field in WI and we had a great time but was it hot. Oh my. Good though for a preliminary for the Ft. McCoy event. One thing that I want to emphasize after this weekend is that since this will be a camp-out event with possibly less support than last year, those attending should bring plenty of water and drinks and food to keep their strength up. Also a really neat thing and worth the money are these portable tent fans (Gander Mountain and elsewhere) for a place to cool off. Off course A/C cars work too. Get yourself a cooler and stock it. You won't be sorry. Bring some aspirin too if you are prone to wearing out in hot weather as am I. Hydrate a couple of days infront of the event. I'm starting on Wednesday. No coffee - just water. Freefall saw MOA regulars Morkova, Squirrel, Gryphon, Rekkon, Otto, ba-64, Andre and a slew of additional attendees at our past events in attendance. You can check it out here: www.facebook.com/pages/Freefall-Airsoft-Game/105275577822

Well I have finished the prep work for the McCoy event (paperwork) and we are all set. We are getting some nice detailed maps of the play area. These are nice aerial views as if our respective air forces were busy. Very nice and they'll be a big help. Still waiting to hear about a building but come prepared with charged batteries and all you need to survive without one.
IMPORTANT - I will be reporting my final number of attendees at the close of the month. After that I won't add you without a very good reason. So let me know by then if you plan on attending.

I hate to miss ANY Midwest Ostfront Airsoft events, but can't make this one. I have been way too busy for the last several months buying a new house and selling an old one....once it is all behind me, out of town trips to MOA events will be back on the table! Have fun and I hope mother nature and a good turn out provides you all with a great event!!!

Sir V - nice to see you are still dreaming about MOA events and sorry to hear we will have to wait to see you again. But with the neighbors you had, I'd have moved too.
For this event - Friday night arrival will benefit each team for on Friday, teams may fortify their positions. We are going to repeat last year's scenario where there will be five victory point locations and each will have a random number assigned. Here is how it will work:
Five relatively linear victory locations. Each side will start with two with the middle location being decided by coin flip. You may only attack the location in front of you. (you can wrap around behind enemy lines but capturing rear VP locations that are not the objective for any given scenario is pointless. You still however could flank to give advantage to your attack on a VP location for which you are supposed to capture). You may elect to defend or attack or do both.
For example - Germans win flip and start with three locations and the Russians have two. The Germans can only attack the Russian location closest to them and the Russians must focus their attacks on the German position won in the flip. When a VP location falls to the enemy, the scenario ends and we move the sticks and the process begins anew. Respawn will always be at the VP location behind the one you are defending. If you are defending your last location, respawn will be closer to that point but will be limited in number signifying a unit low on supplies and surrounded. A break out being the order of the day to get one side back to supplies and unlimited respawn.
15-minutes respawn max for vehicles and 10-minutes for personnel. This is on the five minute marks when you arrive at respawn. So minimum respawn is 5-minutes for a person arriving at the clock right on the 5-minute mark and 10-minute minimum for vehicles arriving on the 5-minute mark. Please wait the proper time to respawn as I don't want people returning to the fray with immediate knowledge of where everyone is.
Commanders will need to decide how to balance their attack and defensive options. I hope to use radios for communications so if you have a set of working walkie-talkies bring them please and also, air horns or whistles.
Chrono will be for suspect weapons and for those wishing it. Know the limits and don't exceed them. MOA rules.
If one side captures all the VP locations, the scenario starts again with each side switching roles and the team that lost the extra position wins it. So in order to completely dominate you have to do it twice and in each direction.
The reason random numbers are assigned is to allow one side to win by points even though they might only control two locations at game end time. They may just be lucky. But that will not be likely. It will improve your teams chance of winning by having more VP locations. I plan to have 10pt, 20pt, and 30pt options and each VP location will get one of these assigned by chance. For instance, let's say that the Germans hold two 30-point VP locations and the Russians hold 3 VP locations but they are 10pts apiece. Germans win. We'll know only when we see what is numbered on the VP locations and I will draw them out with a Russian helping me but they will be known only to the side owning the VP location. Sealed envelops.
That's all for now.

Thanks EJ I will be back...just to let you know I didn't move because of the guys who tried the home invasion....they were meth heads. who lived out in the sticks, 30 miles out of the city and thought I'd be a push over...they are serving 15 years as we speak. The reason I moved was because I wanted a bigger garage...I wanted room for this! www.milweb.net/classifieds/large_image.php?ad=58233&cat=3Good luck with Fort McCoy, I am envious!!!

Hello, I'm a new forum member. I've just discovered this site and have been dreaming of a large scale WWII airsoft event for years. I'm curious, are these MOA events annual?

Yes for the most part. The MOA has annual April, August, October and February events. There are also regular/semi-regular/might-become-regular events in June, November and January as well.

ww2kid, you can always start by committing to an event. Our website is www.ostfrontairsoft.com and you can check there for dates of events. There will be one in October but that date isn't posted yet. Remember, you don't need full kit to start. You are welcome to begin as a partisan. Anyways, the site info covers your options.

Ok, I think MOA has finally caught a break for weather on this event. Friday, Saturday and Sunday are all partly cloudy with highs of 83 for the first two days and 80 for Sunday and lows of 63 for the first two days and a low of 60 on Sunday. Forget the heat of the past week and get ready for some temperate and comfortable dry weather. Thank God! See everyone on Friday.
