I have been assembling pieces for a BAR build and now have everything except the receiver and barrel. When this BAR came on the market I had thought to put my stuff up for sale. Now, I believe I will hold on to it a bit longer:) Actually, it's a lot of fun trying to build one of these things anyway. I've been toying around with the idea of building one and made a few false starts already. Given the price, I might still do it.

Here is what I have spent so far. Stock with all the metal $40. Forearm $25. Rear sight $25. Entire gas assy $100. Complete bipod with the front shroud $70. I already have the internals from spares for the M1 build, but figure them at roughly $70. So I have roughly $340 in the gun including the metal for the receiver. If one were to fabricate all of these parts out of metal I'm sure they could save some money, but it would be a lot of work. I'm planning to use some scrap pipe I have here for the barrel. So the short of it is that there will still be a lot of fabricating on this build, but I think it would be kind of interesting to do. I'm just now starting to get over the M1 so it might be a good time to give it a try. Oh yes. I got all of the BAR parts from a fellow in Greece. I'm not going to recommend him though. He short changed me on my parts after I paid him and kept dancing around saying they had been shipped. I did receive a partial shipment but not all of the parts. On the very last day for Paypal (45 days) I filed a dispute and they held the funds until I received my parts. Thank the lord for Paypal.

While I have told you guys i've been in contact with Brain, the head tech at ECHO1 about their BAR, and i got a response to my comment. My comment was "I guess ill just have to wait " and he wrote back saying a couple more days. So i dont know what to think of this, maybe it will be announced really soon!

Let us know when you get it and take pictures with you whole set up. I'm anxious to see this more widely distributed than just through this outfit in the UK. How much did shipping set you back?

Let us know what you think once you get it. Early reports seem very favorable.

Will do! I can't wait.... now I'm tossing around ideas of how to make some mags to fill my new bar belt. Off the top of my head I'm thinking modding some strait M14 mags would work.

Any idea how the mags are set up? Where the opening for the BB's is located? I was noticing the mags for my JG FAL have an external similarity to the real BAR mags, but the opening is towards the back of the mag instead of the front like the M14. That might be a good candidate for conversion, depending.

D%$^!, My repro BAR belt I bought on ebay turned out to be a mint Boyt -42- belt. The hardware, lightweight canvas and how the pockets are sewn match my Boyt -42- Thompson ammo bag. And what's worse is it has five different shades of OD3....
I was looking forward to getting it super dirty too, now though I'll just get it very slightly dirty.
(If you can't tell, I'm actually super excited about this awesome piece of kit) ;D

I wonder if this BAR will ever be stocked by an american store, such as gi or anyone else?

From a little Googling it seems like it's only available in the UK. That's a bit weird. You'd think they'd want the widest possible market. Cross your fingers. Maybe they're just using the UK for a test market.

knowing american retailers, they're focused on getting the next M4. Would LOVE to see the BAR, but considering ASGI dragged their feet on getting the CO2 carbine and evike doesn't even have one, I'm not that hopeful.

Evike is the best bet on getting the BAR stocked. GI is too busy restocking everything else they already have.

For the heckuvit I sent an email to sales@evike.com. Their reply was basically, we don't know. Of course, BAR's may be a bit of a sore point with them after the fiasco they had with the preorders for the guns that never arrived.

I dont intimately know the ins and outs of Chinese airsoft manufacturers but there always seems to be behind the scenes drama and politics involved. Have little doubt that the company in China that cloned the Taiwan built and designed VFC BAR or their intended distributor fell into fault with the government who put the skids on production. Thankfully they didnt destroy the tooling and the VFC ripoff got carried forward by another company. This company probably made an agreement for initial distributorship through the channel in England although in time my guess is a major distributor like ECHO or JG will pick it up and broaden the distribution. its quite possible that initial production simply wasnt able to support the larger numbers required.
in order for this to happen sales of the initial offering have to show promise which im fairly confident it will. The loser in all this in some ways is all of us as a company like VFC in Taiwan stepped up for the bulk of the R&D and extremely expensive initial tooling only to be reverse engineered and ripped off by a company (or two) in mainland China. With this being so rampant its no wonder new offerings are so few and far between.
with all that said I hope VFC got out from under their initial costs and made money and hopefully they had a high enough price point on the guns they sold to do so. Obviously anticipation of the inevitable rip off is one of the reasons the VFC cost as much as they did. With the tenuous nature of all things airsoft (especially coming out of China) the BAR may never get beyond the limited distribution they currently have and could end up once again having the shop closed up so my advice is if this BAR appeals to you and you have the dough...don,t wait get one bought!

If you are pleased with it (and im sure you will be). A couple of them for your airborne element should help offset the german mg 42! In reality for airborne units the 30 Cal was far more common place. In accordance to the official TO&E there were more 30 Cals than officially assigned Thompsons although this was never actually the case as far more folks hauled Thompsons than the assigned distribution. NCOs and officers assigned carbines often carried Thompsons.
Naturally once you get your hands on it we expect a full report.

The anticipation of a specially ordered gun can be excruciating. Especially with a long anticipated gun. Please fill us all in (both of you) when your BARs arrive and you're able to tell us about them. Your reports hopefully will encourage others to place orders and will allow us to enjoy your purchases vicareously until we have the wherewithall to purchase our own.

For removing the orange "borrow" some nail polish remover from your mom, wife, or girlfriend.

I just primered mine black. Acetone works well [the base of nail polish remover] or oven cleaner works on some enamel based paints. and BTW 2nd bat in todays society many male 'impressions' include nail polish so your bro's may have remover as well road warriors images say it all though for the appearance. I have a lot of weapons but never really had contact wtih a BAR. I imagined it being large but its BIG and hefty. If there were ever a rifle that loudly declared you mean buisness this would be it. I'm gonna do some shooting today to get a feel for it. I'd love to explore the ease in which its stated you can change springs. For our events we need a US equilizer so buffing this up would be a big plus.
