with a growing hobby dont obsess over numbers of participants as that will grow. Put out the invites, plan action sequences so they work for a wide span with regard to turnout and just recognize that for every WW2 airsofter there are about 20 "chairsofters" who fantasize about playing and like taking pictures of themselves in their gear but really dont have the motivation to actually get dirty, wet, cold or endure the expense or effort required to actually go to an event. i for one know how challenging, frustrating and expensive hosting events can be and suggest you do what you can, enjoy what you get, post great pictures and AARs and hope the fun becomes contagious. Do all you can to make those who didn't come wish they had. And dont focus on those who didnt support it and instead focus on those who do. i have found over the years that quality contributes more to a successful event thwn quantity. For WW2 airsoft to work, travel, time and costs are involved. that is a simple, undeniable fact. For those expressed ww2 airsoft enthusiasts in the NE I heartily suggest you make a genuine and sincere effort to support and participate in this event. Thank you for the support 2nd bat.

Event Postponed Make up date: End of March or Early AprilRegrettably, Brownien and I have decided that it's best to postponed this event to the end of March or early April. There are several factors involved in this decision. The weather report calls for a snow/rain wintery mix that could prove to be disruptive. And the other is attendance. For those who have registered and paid, I could not in good conscious have them show up to support the event only to find about 10 other players there. Brownien and I did and still do have a wonderful event planned, with some great props, CP's erected and mission scenarios planned. But I could not risk players traveling several hours in potential bad weather, to show up for an event that will have at best 10-12 players there. And needless to say that some of the players who have committed to coming could have bailed as well due to the weather. I agree with 2nd Bat, quality over quantity. But given all the variables, we both agreed that a postponement is best. What we will probably do moving forward, is to make the "new" event a full immersion two day weekend event. More on all of this will be posted very shortly. I have also sent out emails to those who have registered and prepaid. Full refunds are offered. Please refer to your emails for instructions. Thank you all for your understanding and cooperation, Joe Migs

Joe,
Thanks to you and Brownien for stepping up and it sounds like you made the right call. Until you have a significant number of players to draw from, Winter events are tough to pull off. Once the support is there you'll find significant enthusiasm for them.

Discretion is the better part of valor. Good call. I'm just praying that the make-up date is on a date that I can attend-- and I'm hoping I might rope in a guest or two.

Migs, Brownien,
Sorry to hear that you had to postpone the event. I was just logging on to tell you I would be there too.
But, I will weigh in on the conversation.
yes, driving might suck, and gas prices definitely suck, but think about what it is you are doing here. Where else can you put on a WW2 uniform and shoot tiny bbs at your friends? We have all involved ourselves in a fairly small hobby, so it is inevitable that there will be some travel time involved. Thats the price we pay, and speaking for myself, I am glad to do it.
90% of other hobbies do just as much traveling, if not more. I have been all over the country for paintball. I have traveled to other states for baseball tourneys, and in a couple of weeks I will be driving 5 hrs to GAP2. Va this summer, Ohio this summer. All from Ct.
As it stands, we have 3 fields that I know of available to us. GZA in Ct, Browniens new field in NY, and I have a field in NH that we will be playing some time this year. The variety is good for a few reasons.
Some games will be close, and others far. If the people planning events do it right, it will work out fairly evenly for all. Except you Michigan and VA guys. Nothing is close for you. So yes, this month you may drive 5 hours, but in a couple months you may go 1 hour.
Fields get old. Can anyone honestly say they arent tired of fighting in the same town over and over at GZA? Gza is a great field, but there are only so many scenarios you can run there. Even discounting the towns, the terrain is what it is. And everyone knows the field so well by now, the gunfights are routine and boring. Same firefight in the same places over and over.
Going to a new field forces all of us to work to understand the land, ambush points, avenues of approach, etc. Good for keeping our minds active and making us all better at what we do.
Different fields also means new blood. Ive played with some of you enough times now, that I know what you are ging to do and how you will react to me before I fire a shot. BORING. I want a challenge, and that means finding someone else to shoot at, preferably someone better than me (though we all know thats next to impossible).
I know alot of you are younger. Airsoft is one of the few hobbies that mixes kids with adults. Which I think is good. It helps us old guys remember what its like to be a kid, and hopefully shows the kids how adults interact with each other, preferably in a positive light. But, I know it makes it hard for some of you to make it to games. Migs made an offhand remark about hitching a ride, but I think it should be taken seriously. I for one am more than willing to meet your parents, let them know who I am and show them I am not a prevert, and I have no problem stuffing you in the car with my gear. You may be in the trunk though, I like to keep my uniforms nice and neat in the back seat. Carpooling cuts the cost for everyone involved.
I guess what I am saying is, I fully supprt Migs and Co. And will continue to do what I can to contribute. After all the effort He and friends put in to organize, I dont think driving a few extra miles is a big deal.
Bill

Depending on the weekend in March or April, my group and I will try to make this. We are only in PA, only about an hour from NY.

First off, thanks to Drizzt04 for his input. He is echoing what I have been stating and feeling these past few months. These events are only as strong as the membership's participation. As a producer, I can only do so much.
But just like Drizzt04 said, GZA has gotten a bit stale and that is one of the reasons why Brownien and I want to put an event on in upstate NY. It's really not too far from GZA as a reference point and it seems to have a lot to offer with an owner who is easier to work with. In case any of you have been thinking that you'll just sit this one out and wait for the next one at GZA, don't hold your breath. At least not any event I'll be hosting. I've previously explained the downside to GZA from a playing and financial standpoint. I don't see me looking to go back there for a while. Which in a way is a good thing. Let's keep it fresh like drizt04 said. It makes for better game play when players have to figure out the field and not know it like the back of their hand.
The last few events I've hosted I've tried to mix up where the concentration of play (AO) would occur, as to keep it fresh. "Operation Overlord" was to occur mostly in the firebase (Utah Beach) area, but we got rained out. "Bastogne" was mostly the village area and "Hell's Highway" was the woods between the village and highpoint. My point is I've been aware of the pitfalls of GZA and tried to mix it up as best I could, but now it's time to move on altogether.
The new date will probably be the weekend of April 6th, but it's not official yet. Brownien and I are considering a full 2 day of fighting/camping with the hope that attendance will rise and support will expand. I certainly appreciate all of your input and hope that the chatter continues.
Wishing I was playing right now instead of typing this post. But I hope to see most of you real soon,
Migs

BTW everyone... this field is not far at all from the FJ Amsterdam Field in NY. So... if you've been to the Amsterdam field you should be able to come to this event as well... hope to see you all there!

Migs,
Cant make this one. It is opening day for my baseball league. Being director of tee ball, I kind of have to be there.
Zeno, I am not going, but I will be putting this out to my guys anyway. If any of them are going, you would be more than welcome to carpool with them. We are out of CT and MA.
Ray, I have your sten that you lent Brandon. I will try to get it down to you with any troops that may attend.

UPDATE
For the event, everyone attending will recieve a lunch and dinner ration on Saturday. For the Saturday combat, everyone will be required to carry their provided rations on them durring gameplay, as there will be an unscheduled break in combat for lunch and dinner. If you have period eating utencils, BRING THEM! We will not be providing eating utencils to HEAT AND EAT your rations. IF you do forget some of your utencils, I can run home and provide you with something, but that is only for the last ditch if you forgot something. We will set up quick team campfires to cook individual rations on, so that will not be an issue.
The plan for meals is to simulate a lul in combat, durring which we will eat. This is to keep the game constant, and more immersive.
Anyone staying until Sunday will need to bring their own food to eat for the second day. Sunday will be a bit more relaxed, so we may have a scheuled break for both forces to join up and eat, but that is still TBD.
The fee to extend gameplay for each person to Sunday will still be a mere $5! Anyone interested in camping; period tents are reccomended but not required. Anyone not interested in camping out, there are many hotels in the surrounding towns, and are at most 10-15 mins away.
Hope to see you all there! Sign up ASAP!

Registrations Gentlemen, We need everyone who is coming to register asap. Brownien and I need to get a gauge on our attendance so we can plan event scenarios accordingly. Even if you don't intend to prepay, please send us your information so we can formulate a plan. Right now, at last head count we have about 17 or so, far below our desired numbers. But considering Issah1944's event two weeks ago, we'll go with whatever numbers we have. Please send registrations to: SfcMigs@gmail.com Hope to hear from you all asap. Migs

Quick update to anyone attending. After attending Issah's event, the phone number provided was very appreciated in locating the field after getting lost! So for anyone who would like a bit more insurance in the directions department, my cell phone number is: 518-774-7898. My phone is always on, and if you get lost or if you are going to be a bit late etc. Feel free to give me a call and I'll help you out!
Looking forward to this one! ....Well I look forward to every event! ;D
