Hi guys, done a couple of posts in the past but this ones different. A while ago i decided i wanted to custom build an M1919A4. Now, a lot of the external work has been done (cutting and welding) but my biggest block right now is what kind of hop up should i get?
I dont know how it should be fed.
Its being powered with an M14 gearbox with an M14 barrel
Some ideas i had were either 1. from top with P90 mag 2. From bottom from some other mag. 3. or, from side with an M60 or M249 box mag
What do you guys think i should do?

Well the M14 gearbox is designed to hook up to a hopup unit at an angle upwards. Using any other Hop-up unit will cause alignment issues and air leakage. Go with a M14 hop-up and modify it to accept another mag or an m14 mag.
I personally would try to work out using a P90 gearbox, hop-up, and magazine all hidden below the ammo door. This way, it can be used by one person without having any wires or tubes hanging loose that could break or snag. Also magazines are already available and may require minimal conversion, instead of manufacturing your own box mags. This would make reloading often neccessary, as is IRL, and spares can be kept in a 30cal ammo can.
Dangit! now you got me thinking and I want to build one! ;D Although if I do build one I have a feeling some manufacturing company is going to come out with one as soon as I'm done!

I already have a P90 mag but i just dont have a hop up.
I wonder if there is a shorter mag i could use that wouldn't have the mag sticking out. I actually saw a custom M1919 that had an M14 gearbox and i believe it used an M14 hop up. But it was fed from underneath from a box mag. I believe that would probably work.
BTW. Does anybody know where i can buy PVC plastic sheets?

You can pick up plastic sheets of assorted thicknesses at TAP plastics. For a fee some will even cut out your patterned shapes for you. In answer to your magazine question MAG brand offers a wonderful mid cap magazine for m14s that is about half the normal length.

A P90 mag is to wide for the Body of an M1919, if you havent built it yet you could modify the whole body and make it wider to take the P90 mag.
That is the one thing I wanted my 1919 to do is have a mag that fed from the top/went inside the body but I didnt think of that until after it was built.
If you have any questions just let me know, Ive built 3 of these things now.

The p90 hop up marrys to the m14 gearbox quite nicely if you want to load from the top. I'm doing just such a set up now in a 30 CAL so we'll see how it goes.

Just an off the wall thought as I sit here with my coffee. Has anyone done an M1919A6? With all the paratroop units it would seem like a natural.

I have done a couple of them and am setting up my current A4 so it can be configured either way. The butt stock is fairly straight forward and im using a carry handle from a BAR. Bipod is pretty straight forward a well. I did a muzzle cone on the earlier two but it turns out those were late war/ Korean War deal. Too bad as I really liked the looks and enhanced sound they created.
Schmitts was spectacular (as always). We used it at several battlesim events. It fed from the top with a reservoir under the feedtray cover. He had power and spare BBs in an ammo box with the wires built into the ammo belt. It thus was appropriately a crew served weapon.

I am putting the finishing touches on my latest M1919. The guts are all in place and the completed housing is all done. I made two different pistol grips. One with a stock (m1919a6) and one without (m1919a4) For practicality purposes and skirmishability i want the ammo box mounted to the gun but the real steel ammo box was just too heavy.
