This rifle is much talked about, especially as people swap horror stories. However, contrary to popular belief, this is actually a fantastic gun (at least, it has for the 300 rounds I've put through it). Feel: 5/5 A+ This rifle feels exactly the same as my grandpa's real M1. True, it is a bit lighter, but not too much. Loading: 4/5, B- Actually, loading the clips into the gun isn't too hard, but getting the BBs into the clip is quite hard. They like to spring out if you let your grip on the follower relax. Shooting impression: 5/5 A+ There's a loud bang, and a detectable kick is felt in your shoulder. The clip ejecting is fun, and the metal clips DO sometimes make the ping. ;D Performance: 5/5 A+ I was shooting at targets maybe 10 yards away, and 15 out of 16 rounds hit. In 45 degrees Fahrenheit, it was shooting 410 with green gas and .45s. Maintenance: 4/5 B- This rifle strips very easily for maintenance, though it needs a lot. There are quite a few screws that need locktite. For some people it's a handful, but I can handle it. Badassness: 6/5 A++ This gun is simply amazing. It looks exactly the same as a real M1, the metal clips make a ping, and maintenance isn't too hard. Overall verdict: 29/30 A If you have the time, money and patience for this gun,I heartily recommend it.

Shifty sounds like you have a nice rifle. I'm interested to hear about it after you skirmish with it a few times. I hope it keep it's "zero" for ya!

Shifty, apply the loctite now....right now. Empty a hole clip and Try to hit a 1' x 1' target at 120' indoors... nevermind outdoors, with your Marushin. If you can get a minimum of 4 out of 8 on target you might even be able to skirmish with it.

Ignorance is bliss and naivete is kinda cute sometimes. Love your enthusiasm! I do hope your acknowledged 300 round experience doesn't prompt too mny people to rush out and buy one. I also truly hope your luck with this product holds up.

I have loctited every screw I could find, and it's kinda cold here, so it isn't performing its best. I may have gotten an exception to the generally horrible Marushin line.

Have you imagined yourself trying to skirmish with it yet? Hmmm eight rounds ....look around for the epended clip. Fumble around, put a new lip in ... Darn it, yep....ooops... Whaay? Oh okay now it's in? Fire eight rounds. Repeat earlier load experience, find that clip....fire eight rounds. Hmmmmm power is off a bit. Eight more. Squeaze in gas....reload.
If you're just back yard plinking it's a fun gun. If it lasts another 500 rounds you really got a good one. If you ever thought about skirmishing with it and being even a little bit relevant as a team member, you're dreaming. I don't want anyone to read this review thread and choose to buy this product without their eyes wide open.

You must work for Marushin or something?
I've had a lot of experience with different airsoft guns, even built some, and Marushins M1's completely suck. Your's lasted 300 rounds, so make all the rest of the shots count, because it probably won't last much longer. I'm not sure how your going to be able to battle with it either... You'd be better off taking a handfull of bbs and throwing them at the enemy. And I hate to tell you this, but you've fired only 300 rounds? In just an intense part of a battle, you usually fire over 1,000 bbs in a few minutes.

Not if you're at a well run mil sim event that restricts ammo or magazine types (unless of course you're the machine gunner). Even at a well done ww2 event with restricted and realistic loads the Marushin M1 just isn't going to hold its own.

You seem to really want to believe in what is a bad gun. as youve been told by others, sell it before it breaks. buy an ICS if you really want a garand.

SI is the US version of the gun, which is a massive improvement over the original. There are fewer screws I believe and it hasn't exploded on green gas like the normal would. I have now put 500 rounds through it.

Even at a well done ww2 event with restricted and realistic loads the Marushin M1 just isn't going to hold its own. I completely disagree with you, back when the Marushin M1 first came out I bought one and I was very successful in battles with it, even at a couple of modern airsoft games I went to. I had a full cartridge belt, so I wasn't hurting for ammo. The only drawback is having to stop and refill the gas tank every once and a while and catch your clips when they eject. I've lost only one but it was found a year later... a little rusty but was able to clean it up and make it serviceable again. This rifle is not for the novice, if you know what your doing and take proper care of the weapon then it will service you well in the field. In fact the last event that Tom busted his Marushin M1 Garand out, the non-SI version it was shooting at an impressive 450fps, that is 150-200fps more then what the manufacturer claims it can shoot. That is what proper care and maintenance can do. He was very successful at the event killing krauts.

I agree. I have skirmished mine once (at a modern game) and it could hold its own as a DMR. Do you still use your Marushin Garand?

I bought my Marushin 8mm M1 Carbine a few years ago and I took really good care of it, maintenance and everything. Believe it or not it was my first airsoft gun I had ever owned. It was actually quite skirmishable, I did really good in the field the first year I owned it. I believe Marushin's deteriorate the longer they are used, as I only used mine when there was an event, hardly ever shot it in the backyard or anything. I put about two 500 bags of Marushin's 8mm bb's through it. One day I decided to shoot it in the woods behind my house, and when I did it fired a few shots and then the bolt broke in half and a small flame shot out of the top of the mag where the gas is released. So mine lasted a little over a year with moderate use, and I took very good care of it.
So, if your skilled enough, they are somewhat skirmishable. As far as reliability goes, eventually they're going to brake, and a lot sooner than all of the other airsoft guns. Sure, they all have to go sometime, but these guys go a lot sooner. Even with excellent maintenance it is just delaying the inevitable.

Actually, my Garand has gotten more accurate over time. The hopup apparently breaks in like a Marui. I'm just waiting for my steel part 45...

500 rounds through an airsoft gun is like going around the block in a car. I have over 10,000 rounds through my ICS Garand. That is NOT an exaggeration. I am positive it will out perform your Marushin in accuracy and range and do so at LEGAL jouels for most events. (as a semi auto weapon). You have a right to your opinion and I love your enthusiasm. I just hope NO ONE buys one based on the input of someone who fired 500 rounds through it. I had two Marushin Garands and they remain the worst airsoft purchase I ever made. i too made some elminations at modern events with a Marushin M1 so of course that is not impossible. i've done knife kills as well but wouldn't want to go into a game armed with just a rubber knife. Incidently, have you done the jouelles equivalency for .45s at 410 FPS? If you have, you know that it's not within specs for ANY airsoft sponsor (I have ever seen.) Having said that, with the larger BB surface of an 8mm and your low low low rate of fire.....eight rounds followed by drama, frustration and fumbling and two maybe three reloads and you're squeazing in gas, I wouldn't have any issue with you bringing it. If you're on my side I'll be sure to have a functional back up for you. Anyone with enough enthusiasm to field one of these at an event is someone I want on my team. (I just want them armed with something the team can count on.) Love your passion, hate your gun (for skirmish use)

If someone could reverse engineer this gun and rebuild it with more structurally sound internals, and add a remote line to a large external tank, this would be highly realistic, reliable and skirmishable. I plan on adding a remote line to my redfire k98, because I cannot source extra mags currently.

IF the Pilgrims had shot a skunk instead of a turkey...Thanksgiving would not be something we celebrate. Indeed conceptually the Marushin M1 is awesome but execution was dreadful. To be useable it needed tighter tolerances and higher quality materials for the stressed parts and a much much larger gas capacity. External gas tanks were commonplace of airsoft guns in the early to late 80s but was really a turn off for me as they detract greatly from the replica even when you're descreit with them.

I was thinking about adding lots of orings and seals and runnning a 6mm air hose up to the dummy gas cylinder from the reservoir, thus increasing gas capacity.

Knock yourself out. Without reinforcements in the parts that require them, a larger gas capacity will simply hasten the time it takes for the gun to ea its young. Give up on this turkey and get a truly functional gun.
Having owned two of them here is how I would rate it
Appearance : 4.9 / 5. It,s a good looking replica Functionality. 3/ 5. Cool blow back and cycling but cumbersome and difficult to set up. Skirmishability. 1/ 5. Low gas capacity, difficult to reload, inconsistent. The realistic 8 rounds would be great if they reloaded as easily and consistently. Reliabilty. 1/ 5. Very persnickety. effected by temperatures and extremely care intensive Durability. 1/ 5 I have never heard of anyone getting 1000 rounds through it without repairs Power. 4/ 5. With green gas and a hot day it generates great hitting power It s a 4 only because it EXCEEDS the power restrictions for most events Accuracy. 4/5. The 8mm BBs are not effected by wind or brush to the degree 6mm lighter BBs are but do not have the range or accuracy of quality most AEGs
Overall. 2/5. Expensive to purchase and operate. Difficult to maintain. Very fragile the worst airsoft purchases I ever made. I soooo wanted this gun to be good but it is horrible. Fun plinker and excellent wall hanger it is a model conceived in brilliance and executed in discrace. Anyone buying one of these needs to do so with eyes wide open. My recommendation is purchase an ICS or wait on the release of the GnG. Stay AWAY from this offering It has done great harm to our hobby by discouraging hundreds of buyers hoping it would be a good skirmish weapon only to find they wasted their investment.

The design is logical and not overcomplicated; it's the build material (pot metal) that kills this replica. RA TECH, PLEASE READ THIS AND MAKE STEEL PARTS!!! If a company like Ra-Tech made upgrade parts, the few remaining stores that have have these in stock would soon be out of stock, and the company's profit would grow exponentially.

Once again that critical word "IF". Reality is what one has to deal with and the reality this rifle is a beautiful POS. Incidently if you think you loctited all the essential screws I guarantee you missed some. Hang onto the gun if you must for old time sake but save your dough and get a viable airsoft gun. If not for yourself, for the other guys on your team.

I am really not sure about the different models, besides caliber. What is the real difference between the old and SI versions? Just a higher fps with the SI?
I'm mostly curious because... Unfotunately, I am joining the dark side. I am purchasing one off EvilBay (EBay). It's the 8mm cal. And I know it works as of now. I only really want it for collecting purposes, and I may get some extra clips to use for simple backyard games. But for ww2 events, I will stick with my 2ndBat M1's and Kar98k

The difference between the original and SI version is that the SI version has some stronger parts to handle the higher PSI of green gas. The first run Marushin Garands use HFC134a which is about 80psi, Green gas runs about 110-115psi.
Appearance : 5/5 Best rifle I've ever seen, in looks and functionality to the real steal counterpart. With the metal clips you do get a *ping* when the clip ejects. Not the same as the real steal of course.
Functionality. 4/5 Blow back cycle is nice and crisp
Skirmishability. 3/5 due to having to carry gas and refill the tank, I've never had issues reloading clips into the rifle. You do want to have a full cartridge belt of clips when you skirmish.
Reliability. 1/5 High maintenance rifle, not for the novice. And it is a summer time rifle like most Gas guns.
Durability. 3/5 Unlike 2ndbat I have seen a Marushin go through 1000+ rounds, mine did and so has Tom's M1. But I did brake my first one through my error and not because of use. I over tighten the hopup and it broke, I forgot that I didn't return the hopup to neutral and when I took it out to shoot it, I turned it to where I normally do and it broke. Tom still has a fully functioning 1st run Garand and my replacement Garand is working just fine.
Power. 5/5 With HFC134a gas you get about 300-380fps, Green Gas 370-450fps. The higher FPS has never been an issue with me because virtually all events I've been to in WI, IL and MN allowed rifles with that fps. MOA allows rifles to shoot up to 500fps.
Accuracy. 4/5 Because the 8mm bb is less affected by the wind I noticed more rounds hitting where I aimed.
With that said, I do not recommend this rifle to anyone but the most meticulous of individuals that obsess over maintenance of their belongings ie anal retentive. The maintenance requirements of the rifle are beyond most people. It is easy to over tighten a screw here or not tighten a screw there or over/under lubricate it to throw the gun outa whack. It is like an engine in a way. A finely tuned machine, and if it is off calibration it wont function as needed.

My experience with the two I had were so abominal that I get emotional just thinking about them. I so wanted them to work and hold up but they just didn't. It is great to get balanced feedback and such a realistic first hand assesment of the rifle from someone who has so actively skirmished with them over time. I know now that I haven't the patience or dedication to make one work well enough and consistently enough to include it in my armory anymore but clearly this is not true for everyone.
Great input and helpful feedback.

I plan to put the gas cylinder near the muzzle to work as a reservoir, not an external tank. I assume this would be much more difficult than an external tank mod. Has anyone done this? Also, would anyone know where to get new hammer springs?

No. Thankfully I sold one as a non functioning prop gun and sold the second one while it still worked on Ebay. With all the spare clips I bought and the price I paid for the guns I lost my sciveys.
The experience and frustration is what prompted me to do my first M14 to M1 conversion which were done on Airsoft Club M14s which were $600.00 each for the base guns and then another $130.00 in gun show Garand parts. i wanted a functioning pseudo Garand that badly. When Marui came out with their M14 the cost came down another $300.00 and finally when the Chinese Marui clones came out the costs came down another $200.00.
Today with a boneyard M14 and some gun show parts a guy can build his own Garand conversion for around $150.00 and used 2nd Bat Garands go for usually around $250.00. While certainly not as authentic looking as the Marushin GBB they work and are very competitive. The ICS with five or six spare clips can be bought for around $450.00 and it is awesome. I am anxious to see if the GnG will narrow the gap of visual authenticity even further and if so would really question the viability of the Marushin GBB which are probably going to become a collectors item.
