Thanks! And don't worry, I know beards are verboten! Wouldn't be wearing one for a game.

Looks pretty good so far. Is there a particular year/campaign/front/location that you are hoping to model it after?

Well I was going for earlier-mid war Panzergrenadier, definitely not eastern front as I'm in Texas and even in the winter it is too warm to really use any cold weather gear. I mostly do US load outs so the German stuff is a little new to me.

Sounds good. If I had to give it a super strict "stitch nazi" review, the few things you could change are the strap on the gas mask canister. The all fabric strap was a late war item. The earlier models had leather loops for where it attaches to the canister (and are a much nicer quality besides). Also, I would add a single eagle decal to the helmet, as the plain gray helmet was also more of a later war thing. They did exist mid war, but stocks of the ones with only one decal were still the most prevalent. Also, the earlier model of Y straps had hidden stitches on the front right where the rivet was. At the Front is the only one I know of that sells this variant. To be honest, if you just dyed the strings black with black leather dye or some equivalent, you can't tell the difference unless you are a few inches away.
That being said, I think your impression looks great! That is me just being super nit-picky for a early to mid war look. If you don't change a thing I wouldn't have a problem either. What you have would be great for a 1944 stitch nazi loadout.

I have two sincere compliments. One is for the impression which showcases very well. Jared has a Marshall appearance which helps a lot and I like the you provide a 360 view. The second compliment is for the Aldrich feedback which models the right way to do it. (In my opinion). The approach is supportive and nurturing with an educational not negative tone. The input is specific and helpful and somehow manages to skirt the all too prevalent "know it all, superiority bent" that often comes with contributions and comments from others. Kudos to you both. Jared for sharing and being so open to help and Aldrich for providing it so well. We all gain from that.

Thanks for the tips aldrich! I'm actually really excited about the helmet decal as I really like the look and wanted to put the eagle on there but that was some of the conflicting things I was reading. Good info and that will be the first thing that I do. I'll go ahead and dye the white strings but do you know where I can find the gas mask strap?
And 2nd Bat, thank you for your encouragement and help throughout everything. You are a lot of the reason I went from forum lurker to posting member due to your encouraging posts. Many of the members go out of their way to help the newbies and I for one really appreciate the time and effort you guys expend to keep the hobby alive and growing. Thanks for the help again and be looking for me on the stitch Nazi thread! Happy new year everyone!

The number of "lurkers" vs "posters" is indeed grim. A very tiny percentage of our members ever post and I have always found that curious. I for one would love to see more contributors and comments in the various threads and especially enjoy seeing impression efforts, event after action reports, scenario ideas and historical contributions. Kudos to all our members but especially those who actively participate. Hopefully for 2016 we'll see that grow.

I believe that there will always be more lurkers than "active" members who post stuff. People generally want to find information but they don't always want to contribute or they don't want to ask for help for whatever reason.
This can be seen on various other forums and media, one example is youtube. You may see a lot of views but actual comments are usually a fraction of the views and of that there are even less likes/dislikes as well.

Thanks for the feedback and compliments! The decal is perfectly fine for the look you are going for. I have one on my helmet for my 1943-44 impression. They are not uncommon on helmets during the Normandy campaign even during 1944. I would search on ebay for the straps. There a few guys who have online stores on there that make custom straps which are usually pretty high quality. They guy who I knew doesn't have any in stock anymore. If you are crafty, they would be very easy to make from some the old strap, small bits of leather, and sturdy string. Here is what they look like: I would go to a place that sells bags of scrap leather, any basic craft store chain should sell this. Cut out the basic shape and the teardrop slit. I would use a trim nail to punch the holes for the thread, and then take a very thick needle, some very heavy duty thread, and a pair of pliers to pull the string through the holes until it is sewn in place.

Awesome info! The decal is ordered and I am going to try my hand at making the leather for the straps. Thanks again!

About time I posted some pictures. Her are some photos of me and my group. I'm obviosuly the Fallschirmjager. The guy with the most correct gear is my brother. We've got a little group going out here in Cali. Only four members now. These pictures were taken last weekend at a local game, with a few from early January as well. We've since decided to standardize and reenact one unit, so stay tuned for upcoming pics of us in... well, more correct kits. I do realize that these are very 'Flaggrantly Wrong,' but hey. It's a WiP thread. This is the picture that was taken of me for my Luftwaffe soldbuch. Also known as the best picture ever taken of me. Me in combat dress. No web gear yet, other than my black officer belt. Mein kleine brüder. He's also our CO now, since our old one left our little group. Somewhat of an ironic picture. The Russki bastar-... er... the fine young gentleman on the right is the leader of a local Soviet group. Obviously that's me on the far left. My brother (Background) and our Russian friend in the foreground. Another ironic photo. Here you can see our 'Pak-36' and our incredibly 'PC' flag. We got the idea from the Soviets, since we can't let them be the only ones flying a flag!

Photo from filming a short film for a school project. Please forgive the Wehrmacht helmet and belt buckle on the SS soldier, the jungle boots, the collar tabs on the Leutnant, the HBT, the East German dress, the Swiss knife, etc. I'm going to a game with my group on Sunday and will get lots of pics of us in our kits. We've standardized, and now pretty much all look alike.

I'm located in the San Francisco Bay Area. One of those photos looks like Fort Ord? I would like to meet up sometime in the future. I need to fix my gun but I haven't been airsofting in almost two years (hahaha armchair general mode to the max). I have a pretty complete German impression and really wanna use it sometime soon. PM me if you'd like to figure something out.

That actually what I am going for. Trying to figure out how to get it in that shape, plus need to take plastic band out from behind the black part of it. Hopefully that will help it.
I've soaked it in warm water a few times already. but I just need to get it to crush, well backwards like that pic

Looks good to me. Outside the things you mentioned I don't see anything that stands out to me as not stitch knot see worthy. Any further tips would boil down to if you were trying to resemble a soldier from a particular front or battle. But in general, outside the binocs (which look good to me but I am no expert on period binocs) and zelt, this could be on the stitch counting thread.

I'm really just going for a Generic Waffen SS Loadout. Tho I will say I am probably going for a Mid-Late War Time frame transferred to the western front from the east.

Generally good job. Here are a few things I can recommend:
No A-frame, no bread bag strap for binocs, ditch one MP40 pouch and move the map case to the front (pistol can be on the left side behind the pouch), wear low boots and wear the Italian trousers without Gamaschen or just use wools (dots if too hot). If you're really going for the generic look, you need a smock. Most commonly type II for Normandy/HJ, but Type I's were also pretty common. Make sure it doesn't match with your helmet cover pattern/print. Also shape the crusher a bit more. Always use the helmet chin strap when in combat.

Thank you for the pointers. I will definitely keep those in mind. My Aframe is generally not worn in combat, used to carry around my gear to my team's base/encampment. And do you mean have both mp40pouches and move the mapcase up with them? I definately am looking to get a good pair of wools, Italians are what I have now. and I do plan on getting a smock, preferably blurred edge.

What I mean is this: On the right side you have your map case. On the left you have a single MP40 pouch. Behind that, so on your left hip, there's a pistol holster. Blurred edge is nice. Especially Gavin's. The Telo Mimetico trousers are alright if you don't wear them with Jackboots.

I'm selling some wool trousers actually, though they might be too big for you. Look for old Antz trousers, they're fantastic!

Yeah Im pretty small. Old Antz? Would I have to look on forums and groups for them or is there a website that sells them?

Pretty much done, in terms of main gear. Just need insignia, need to repaint my old helmet and get a gas mask can, it will look great. Sorry for the 1000 yard stare, I woke up at 9 today Early-mid war SS Schütze, unfortunately you can't see my e-tool, it's extremely heavy: Feedback appreciated.
