One of my long time complaints about airsoft is the fact that AEGs sound like distant woodpeckers and I have long hoped soneone could come up with a noise enhancer. Someone has and while visually I'm not at all sure how it will marry up with period weapons the concept is a SOUND one (pun intended) bltech.co.nz/top-secret/Hopefully tweaks can evolve that will provide something visually less distracting but I love the way this guy thinks.

That is beautiful! Hopefully that design can be shrunk down to something that will work in WW 2 airsoft!

that is very interesting and doesn't sound terrible at all. One day it would be interesting to have different audio files for different guns/ rounds

Truly interesting! Having the ability to engage true sonic stimuli to the playing field is quite cool.
As for the typical suburban backyard (or garage) shooting/plinking range, it likely would be a bit much;)

With the micro speakers and tiny music devices currently available the day probably will come when we might have precise sounds for assorted weapons. The volume of course doesn't have to match actual weapons since our ranges are greatly reduced but a more authentic sound effect would be very cool. Obviously aside from neighbors complaints, replicating the actual volume is lso very very hard on your hearing long term. As depicted in the video, the device shown seems to produce an audio effect where that actully might be a concern.

My first thought on hearing that video was the SWAT team was going to a arrive any minute. It's a neat idea for a suitable, isolated field but it could become very problematic if there's neighbors around. I live in the town where the sheriff's deputy shot a kid carrying an airsoft rifle a couple weeks ago. It's a real sensitive topic at the moment.

It's a neat feature. One of the big concerns of the blank fire groups is that they miss the noise and this would cure that. As for smaller more urban fields, this would probably be a drawback. When we play in Northern WI I always inform the local law enforcement of our events. The fields are larger and isolated but I always believe that the added notification is necessary. Not everybody who may witness a group of uniform people shooting at each other may know what they are witnessing. In Neillsville the authorities also know when we play. Just a good habit to get into, I guess.

To have something like this used on a regular basis, I'm sure regular airsoft fields wil have provisions to let the locals be aware of events where these devices will be used. I'm sure thesaurus is done when blankfire units set up and host tacticals. It would take a bit more prep time, and possibly handing out noise warning pamphlets or a link with the local police dept.

A collective large group where most (or all of the players) had these devices would be very impressive. An isolated and appropriate location is always a good call for any event as is informing the local law enforcement agencies and fire department if you are using smoke or pyro. Apparently this designer has considered the visual distractions and building on the possibilities is working on devices that would be part of your web gear and could create a variety of sounds for assorted weapons.
The blankfire crowd would definitely have less to complain about and even if these devices were fairly expensive when you consider what a typical BF enthusiast exhausts in blanks at a tactical, one of these devices would pay for itself pretty quickly.
