My wife and I try to attend as many of the Oscar nominated films as possible and just enjoy films. Today we went to see Book Thief which is a cinematically powerful film about an orphan girl growing up just prior to the outbreak of WW2 and surviving the war through the eyes of a young girl in a small village in Germany. It was beautifully filmed with great attention to detail and almost mystical approach to a compelling story. Very moving and evocative film. I enjoyed it a great deal.
It effectively puts you in another point of history in another place and was very emmersive. The clothing, uniforms, vehicles and settings were very well done and the acting is superb.

This was a lovely movie. Emotionally one that sticks with you. Rarely does a movie match the visions created by the written word but the town, countryside, school classrooms, little house all tied in nicely with what i invisioned upon reading the book. Shifty having read the book also I would be curious about your thoughts and if like me you think the movie honors the book.
