On the recomandation of Stuka and 2ndbat, I am looking into ways of making a reasonable Japanese rifle. I think I'll move on with the Type38. Apart for some changes to the standard VSR10/BAR10/M70 reciever, it seems to be the most effectful and demanding the least number of odd parts. I have collected some photos, and done a sketch of a new reciever and a new bolt. I'll shape the bolt in heavy duty plastic and test if it works, then a silicone mould and metal casts. Also, I am looking for the right meassure for a small piece of steel or iron pipe for the reciever. I intend for the whole thing to be zink alloy or steel/iron so it will accept schnellbrunierung (we call blu-ing for brown-ing) and/or polished metal. Stock made from three parts to ease up fittings and to get a proper strength of the stock no matter what the direction of the grains. Here are some photos from the initial reserach. Have fun. Free free to add futher comments to the pictures, but please sigh your name. Clic on photo to access album. The only hard part, but I'll work it out...

I am still trying to get close ups of the bolt for you. In case you didn't know though, the arisaka stocks are unfortunately very thin so some of the dimensions will be off just so you know

I know, so you're quite right: It won't be true to meassures. But it will look very Japanese.

Not to sound critical, but what do you think your customer base for this rifle would be?

My customer base? Oh, it's simpler than that. I would like it in my WWII collection myself, so I'll just make notes, diagrams and stuff so other people can build it themselves if they want to. I might make a small e-book to keep my info in one place and updated, and also accessible for the Asian and UK guys. Perhaps charge $5-10 over amazon.com. It's the book-making part I enjoy the most.
If anyone knows how to make silicone moulds for the bolt handle and the additions for the reciever, I suppose they could buy me a bucket of silicone goo for a master to copy. I don't have any hangups about copyright.
Making a Japanese rifle is a respond to a query on what skirmishable arms were lacking, Tanaka and KTW being to costly to leave their walls. I thought they would be russian, but Japanese rifles and LMGs were recommended. You need someone to point that M1 carbine at, right?
But first I have to build it, right?
