I know I posted something about a Navy impression a while ago, but I'm just wondering why Navy impressions are so rare?
Thoughts?

Probably because there aren't as many Navy infantry units.

I guess that makes sense. By that do you mean airsoft units, or units that fought in the war?

Units that actually fought. There were some, but definitely not enough to make a large presence.

If you really wanted to do navy, you could always do a USN corpman, attached to a marine platoon. If PTO airsoft ever gets big here in the NE, that's what I'd like to do

Deployment of naval personnel in land engagements was so rare that involving them in an airsoft game would require a lot of creativity with regard to scenarios and game design. Explosive ordinance, naval beach engineers, naval fire observer, amphibious operations. Large River crossing (such as the Rhine etc.) otherwise a Naval impression for the ETO wouldn't make sense. Certainly as Brownien said a Corpman impression would be about it.

Or if you wanna do another country, like say Germany, you could do a late war Kriegsmarine field division impression. That'd be pretty cool. I plan on doing one of those sometime to stand out from the rest of the group.

I sort of just figured I would do a Beach Patrol type of loadout. I know they most likely saw very little action, but what the heck. No one else seemed to be doing navy so I figured I would give it a try.

There aren't even any US infantry units, so something like Naval infantry is pretty obscure IMHO.

An airsoft battleship, with airsoft 16 inch guns. Plenty of room to fit a VSR-10 in one of those.

Just don't convert a RS battleship, use one of those repro ones. I would avoid the Chinese repro ones though, they tend to spring leaks a lot. Check Atthefront.com in sure their repros would be best

I think he's referring to the amount of paratroopers as opposed to the amount of infantrymen. That's why I'm doing a 1st ID after my German impression. Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk

I do sort of like that, but unfortunately I already bought two of the navy shirts that I saw most commonly in the beach patrol photo's. Thank you for the help however.

Get real guys! There is no way Murph is going to able to replicate a battleship, even a cheap repo from China is big bucks and sooooooooo Flaggrantly Wrong. The color is off and the turrets just look wanky (but maybe it's just me?) I think the Fletcher Class destroyer is much more accurate looking and a lot more practical for transporting to an event. Too bad the torpedos aren't functional.
The nice thing about a Navy impression is it's okay to walk around with your hands in your pockets and everyone loves a sailor.

OK, if the Amis start fielding battleships and destroyers, I guess I'll have to get hold of a repro U-Boot and start work on my "Kaleun" impression.
Don't worry about damage to your fragile Chinese-made warships-- I will load out with nerf torpedoes. Just listen for a dull thud on the hull, and make sure to call hits honestly.

The nerf torpedoes are CO2 powered just like the originals but what I find is ships don't always call their hits. It's not because they are cheating neccessarily as it's really hard to feel them (especially when you are moving, excited and returning fire.) all the more reasons navy impressions aren't very popular.

I find the best way to get ships to call their hits is to use kamakazies. Only downside is the time to respawn in takes forever!

Sound reasons one and all NOT to do up a NAVY impression. USN M41s however do tend to be cheaper.

I have yet to see anyone mention the Naval Mobile Construction Batallions (Seabees). Good luck having a Pacific campaign without them.

Well, there is another plausible Sailor one could do, one that my Wife does actually plan on reenacting. Pilots! And yes, they did carry weapons as well in case they had to eject: Sorry for the glare on the pics, I took these directly from the Navy Yard Museum down in DC. I can imagine some of those small, stand alone airsoft 40mm Grenade Launchers could be a decent replacement for the Flare Gun. I know the whole "Downed Pilot" thing is a modern day scenario based off the immortalized mission conducted by the SEALs, but thats not to say that there were not any pilots in WWII that had to join the guys on the ground. On the topic of ships. I know the Marines took cannons off of older ships and used them for ground artillery. So, I guess one could always make one of these (my wife not included):

We should see these men represented. They did heroic deeds, no less than those in Europe (in some cases moreso, as they were civilian construction workers that took up arms, and did what had to be done to win the war.
