Dear Friends and fans of WW2 history and airsoft. I am looking to create two weapons, G43 (which was done by several people here) and SVT-40, which, I believe was never done, or, if SVT-40 will be to hard - AVS-36. G43 was done here by several people, out of CYMA M14. I PMed them, asking for instructions and more images, but they did not reply, so I am posting this request publicly. English is NOT my first language, so I might need more images to make sense of instruction. SVT-40 is indeed a difficult project, what is a better place to ask for advice than here? I was planning to take an M14, and LOWER, the barrel and hop up by about an inch or so, reversing the position of M14 gas tube and barrel, putting the gas tube above. I do need to know how can it be done. I have an idea of WHAT to do, but not an idea of HOW to do it?:-) anyone willing to help? AVS36. This is an earlier version, with longer mag and full auto capability (ideal for M14), the barrel on it is NOT as low as on SVT-40, and long mag permits to use M14 mags without modifications.
So if ANYONE is willing to give me some ideas and hints. I will greatly appreciate it.

I am planning on building a SVT 40 this summer as my summer project. Though it will not be a perfect replica, I hope that it will work. I plan on using a very nice spring SVD rifle I have bought as a base rifle. My airsoft SVD has all metal parts and a plastic wood stock. I chose the SVD because of the price (around 100 US dollars) and the similar size. I plan on shaping a wooden stock for my rifle. I will then place the SVD, after removing the fake wood parts, into the new stock. I am not yet sure how I will make the gas block. I plan on sliding the front of the gas block on the SVD down the barrel and then placing the shroud around it. While it will not be a perfect replica, and while it is a springer, I think that it could make for a good airsoft replica. I will not have access to tools to build this until the summer. However, I plan on documenting my progress when I do. If successful, I will try to post a "how to" by the end of either this, or next summer. I hope this helps you in some way.

You will discover once you have an m14 apart and in front of you that lowering the barrel simply isn't a viable modification as near as I can figure out.

Okkaaaayyy... That only means that SVT-40 will be VERY hard to make. I probably still can wing out AVS-36... However SVT-40 is a priority. The beauty of SVT-40 is that it was used by both: Soviets and Germans, just like PPSh (which was the second common SMG in German army and SS), so with these I can reenact ANY side.

Trying to convert an m14 woooould be pretty much impossible. Aldrich has the best plan for you to follow my sir, the A&K svd is a pretty simple design and you would understand it in 5 minutes. A g43! If you or anybody can figure how to make it, I''ll be taking notes but I'd imagine that'd be a multi month head-ache. If you have the money try making an SVT-40 out of a gas powered SVD. The blow-back of the bolt and semi-auto function would make it veery game worthy and fun!
