Ok, so each of us have a reason for the username we chose on this forum and other forums. The reason I chose mine is because of my dad's rank in the Army which is Staff Sergeant, with the abbreviation of SSG. And my name dad's and my name is Joe. So combine that, and you get SSGJoe. But I was wondering why you guys chose your usernames, and if there is a story behind it I am curious on what it is. Post away guys! Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk

Kilroy is just one of the coolest parts of the 40's era and I just made something up on the fly that included Kilroy.

I couldn't figure out a name that suits me for this type of forum so Luftwelle93 was what I could think of.Luftwelle meaning "air wave" (I'm big on flying stuff) in German and 93 being my birth year.

Tom is my name and sgttom is due to the obsession I had with Sgt. Saunders from the TV series COMBAT at the time. I use the nickname for all the web boards I am on. Originally used it as my name for the Video game Battlefield 1942.

I actually changed my username a few times. Garnett502ndPIR was my first username, a character from the video game Brothers in Arms. My friends and I all started using names from Brothers in Arms like that for pretty much everything that required a username. It was a pretty dumb idea lol. The 502nd PIR because the game took place with the characters in Fox Company of the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne. My second username was plainly Czarkowski, my last name. I felt kind of weird using a video game character as my username. Now it is Antonius Augustus, from my first name Anthony, and Augustus as in the Roman emperor, from my obsession with Roman history. Also a bit weird being used on a WWII forum lol.

SoldatJakob, comes from the German word for Soldier and Jakob being the German way of spelling my name, Jacob.

Volkssturm was the German militia made up of kids in their teens, old men, and anyone who wasn't considered fit for regular service. Being one of the older members here it seemed appropriate.

I was briefly a proud member of the 2nd Battalion of the 75th Infantry Regiment when the Army Officially reformulated Ranger Battalions in 1976. I served proudly in a number of units during my stint in the US Army. In addition I was with the 101st, The 172nd Lt Arctic Infanty, and the 1st Brigade of the 9th Infantry Division.

So if your ancestors came from hamburg your nickname would be hamburger. LOL. Uh, no, probably would have taken a different direction then. But of course, the American hamburger actually did get its start in the "Hamburg steak" of the 19th century, though it was vastly different from the modern Americanized version.

I started playing BF 1942 and I also remember seeing the bots killing with stuka's so I used that as my username for Runescape. Two accounts later and I ended up with stuka444 as my main username. If you see stuka444 on a game or some forum, it's probably me.
Interestingly enough, 444 in german numarics or whatever you call it means hail hitler or something nazistic. I found that out from playing a game that had servers hosted in germany and well, germans aren't too fond of nazi stuff. Didn't help that it was stuka then 444. They had me change my name.
Anyways, stuka because of bf1942 and stuka444 because it was the final personal account from runescape I made and I just stuck with it.

I have Scandinavian and Romanian backgrounds. I researched a lot about historical Dracula. "Dracul" is the name given to Vlad Tepes II, father of Vlad Tepes III, aka "Dracula". "Dracul" means "dragon". Dracul and Dracula were some the one of the greatest military minds of all time.

He's right, "88" is code for the 8th letter of the alphabet, twice: "HH"= Heil Schicklgruber.

Somehow, "Heil Shicklgruber" just doesn't sound like something to get the masses fired up.

Probably for similar reason that the french hate their forefthers during ww2. They let other countries define them and they instead of ignoring the insults or addressing them, they just don't let anybody say anything.
Granted as an American, I wouldn't know how hard that would be to get over.

That's true, and considering some of the things that our guys did (not saying that didn't happen on the other side), you'd think we wouldn't want to talk about it. It might have something to do with how we were pretty much fighting on the other side of the world, where as with France and Germany there was a war going on right in their backyards

The Vietnam war is weird because people during the war were so against it and people now know very little about. Heck, nobody talks about the freaking "Forgotten" war and while we lost, we sure made the red work for it.

Thats because they LOST although economically, long term, one has to wonder? They not only lost, they let themselves be persuaded to follow a madman and his cronies into a war that almost destroyed them. That's got to be the ultimate "What the F*** were we thinking " moment.

Yeah, it actually didn't end when we got out, a cease fire was called. Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk It wasn't our war to win or loose. It was the Vietnamese Civil War. They were going to fight it out for control of Vietnam regardless of what anyone else did. Our being there just made it longer and bloodier. And we probably doomed the South Vietnamese army by training them to be a first world, industrial age conventional army when they didn't have the economy, industrial base or even a literate enough population to support it. But that's another story. Just my 2 cents.
