Its pretty cool to see Prussian military traditions survive in unlikely of places. In the 19th century,Germany sent military advisers to Chile to train soldiers there. The Prussian military order and traditions rubbed on them and survive today. Here's a couple of videos that shows some of these parades.

I wonder how many of those guys go out on disability from doing the goose step? That's got to be hard on the joints.

That's pretty cool, even the uniforms are classic. I always thought the goose step was silly though, it looks too much like the windup toy soldiers

That's actually really interesting! Antonious, toy soldiers were originally made in Prussia by clockmakers so it'd make sense they'd look like them. Not saying it doesn't look silly though.

Meanwhile, in the Bundeswehr, they're still using Kar98's for drill purposes. Not sure what a wachbattaillon is, but it looks like an honor guard. Also noticed some of the mare wearing what looks like a short jackboot. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYQmzm_7hII

Actually, during WW2 - the germans never goosemarched. They used a slightly different kind of marching. Goosemarch was regarded as outdated prior to Hitler even getting in charge.

I like how at the end of that video it says: Mehr informationen Unter... Hmm, I wonder what that means?

I think it's "more information under".

I´m chilean, and back in my day, I was one of those goose-stepping morons over there, when I was a Cadet at the Air Force Academy. Actually it really hurts if you´re the leading guy (which I wasn´t)… but the funny thing is that goose-stepping is forbidden, but there is an unofficial competition among Army, Navy and Air Force academies on who can lift the leg higher while marching… afterwards you get a reprimand in front of everybody, and a pat in the back when no one looks!

Welcome to the forum! Its cool to hear about this from someone who actually was a part of it.I imagine goose stepping is a bit of a pain in the joints after doing it for almost an entire parade :DYour parades even kept the galloping horseman with the drums bit that you would see in German parades long ago!Anyway have fun here in this forum and welcome!
