I'm finishing up my Browning M1919A4 build, and was on the fence whether or not to buy the Duracoat Parker ready-spray kit for $40. A fellow at work (I work for a limousine company) suggested I visit a local auto paint dealer instead, and take one of my original parts for comparison, because they can custom make shades of spray paint.
So, off to Ithaca Auto Paint I go, and meet a nice fellow named Kevin. I hand him the receiver cover for my replica, a 1943-production real-deal with original finish. He pokes it with a little scanner-doohickey, and says, "Oh, we have that pre-made."
WHAT??
Yes, the finish for the .30 Browning is a 100% perfect match for a shade of SEM Bumper Coater, #39263, "Dark Titanium Metallic". It's maybe half a shade shinier than the original, but like any spray-job, hit it with Testors Dullcoat afterwards to protect the paint job, and it's bang-on perfect.
Thought you fellows might like to take a peek, since you do a lot of the '40s custom builds.
