This is the VI installment of this event and it will be held in West Rutland, VT on the 2-4th of August 2014. The venue has structures and dense woods. The venue change was neccessary due to tragedy in the original sponsors family. The cost ranges from $50.00 for VC and NVA to 85 for Us Army or Marine Corp Infantry and $115.00 for LRRPs spec ops folks. loaner equipment can be arranged. this is typically a fabulous event and one of the largest Nam events of the year. You can get additional details at www.Vietnam-Airsoft.com or the HMSG Facebook page. on Vietnam-Airsoft look for details under "Eye" Corp section.

Hrm...would they allow an observer from MVD, instructing our Vietnamese socialist bretheren in revolution against imperialist reactionary forces from South Vietnam?

I don't know what MVD is? Why Observe? Why not just go and participate. Airsoft is NOT a spectator sport. There will be many many current and former Infantrymen serving as cadre and leadership roles for this event. The primary sponsor (Levi). Is 11 Bravo NCO with CIB, Purple Heart and multiple combat tours. He is currently in Law Enforcement. I am always confused by the number of folks at every large event who want peripheral roles. It is a puzzlement to me. If there are physical impairments there are still assignments, (Camp RTO, TOC Superviser, Supply NCO, someone to distribute mail call?)
Everyone present needs to be a partipant and in period impressions. At past Liberty Canyons there have been reporters and photographers and they were appropriately kitted out.

Technically, one should be GRU (Glavnoye Razvedvatel'noye Upravleniye: Main Intelligence Diectorate) rather than MVD (Ministerstvo Vnutrennikh Del: Ministry of Internal Affairs). However, the MVD served as "advisors" and "observers" to the North for a large portion of the war (there was interruption due to the Sino-Soviet conflicts in 1962 between the CCCP and PRC). When I say "Observer", I refer to combat-active Soviet military intelligence groups that assisted the North Vietnamese.
The reason I ask is, I have full Soviet uniforms from relatives and expanded by my own collecting, and I would be as able to play a Vietnamese as I would blend in with a pink flamingo suit, being 6'3", portly, and caucasian. I am not saying "Unparticipative" with the term "Observer". Merely "A Soviet officer attached to an NVA unit". Does that clarify?

Indeed that is abundantly clear. During the war there were multiple and consistent reports of "Soviet Advisers" accompanying NVA units and there is no doubt this took place. in spite of many missions with the purpose of capturing substantiative evidence of their existance and "kill" missions targeting them, none were ever successful. Although some may have been killed by airstrikes or artillery.
I personally received briefings back in the day to take note of any "unusually tall" or caucasion members of enemy units. I would think a Soviet adviser impression would be fine. in reality I suspect the uniforms worn were visually close to the uniforms of the PAVN but some creativity here would no doubt be fine. 6 foot plus Vietnamese back in those days didn't exist as you say. interestingly the Northern Vietnamese were generally taller then their Southern neighbors and Chinese tended to be taller still so unusually "tall" NVA were often thought to be Chinese advisers.
There were many Soviet Advisers and Chinese Advisers in North Vietnam and even a mission into the North (highly successful I might add) to take them out. a great story for a movie that will probably never get made.

All the best stories never get told. My wife's grandfather was a Jedburgh Jumper.

If in fact Russian Advisers were killed or captured I am not entirely sure that would have been disclosed although discussions about their existance were commonplace and not classified. i remember reading a mission debrief where a LRRP team described observing from great range an enemy unit with at least one member that appeared to be Caucasian. As for liberty canyon 95 % of the vc and NVA will be decidely over sized and not ethnically correct. given the right costume and weapon this is not an issue in the least.
the effect in the fleeting visual context of an airsoft firefight is just fine. One of the great aspects of our hobby is the uniform destinctions vs arm bands etc. The VC , PAVN impression is easy and inexpensive to throw together as it was a pretty varied look.

If you have time off and are even reasonably in proximity to this event (In Vermont). You really owe it to yourself to attend. Levi is REAL Army through and through (wounded 11 Bravo with CIB). He has competent people around him and puts on quality events. This event is this coming weekend. Details at Vitenam-Airsoft.com
Vietnam in many ways is an ideal conflict for airsoft. Small unit tactics, close in combat, brief intense firefights and readily available weapons and impressions.
