Another video from Forgotten Weapons about a German might-have-been, the Maschinen Karabiner 42 (H), the predecessor to the MP43/STG44. About 11,000 were made before they switched to the STG44. www.forgottenweapons.com/The video will scroll down the page day by day, so you'll have to scroll down to find it.

My first German DEWAT MG was an Mkb42(H)! I got it in 1969 from the GI who had just registered it during the 1968 Amenesty. I paid a whole $75 for it. I kept it as DEWAT for several years. I looked into reactivating the gun but it was a very good weld and I was not equipped to do any machine tool work which it would have required to bring it back to life. I wanted a shooting gun so I found a dealer who would do an even up trade with me for a MP43 in shooting condition and pay the $200 transfer fee to get the MP43 to me. At the time it sounded like a good deal so I took it. The folly of youth.
A few years ago I tracked down the gun to a collector in Ohio and I sent him a copy of the written history of how the GI acquired the Mkb42(H). I figured he would like to have it to go with the gun.
