I know this is last minute for important questions like these.... but are we sleeping in the house? Or at it outside? Either way, is it possible for some of us traveling out of state to drive up/down on friday night, and stay the night to avoid paying for a hotel somewhere?
And as for now, that is a confirmed 3 rifles up for the Allies, still unsure of the fourth yet.

Yes, we will be staying at my house. Friday night, preferably not, since we'll be staying overnight on Saturday.

Alright, cool. That will save us some space in the car!
Anyone else heading to the area Friday night and grabbing a hotel somewhere and wouldn't mind three, maybe 4 others in the room to bring costs down?
Also, I'm down a rifle, since Airsoft Megastore sent me a black colored M1 Carbine... Add that to the list of things my team needs to borrow...

If you have a sander you can quickly erradicate the black finish on your CYMA Carbine and then apply brown shoe polish for a pretty passable overall finish. 45 minutes tops!

I could, but seeing how the 4th guy isn't going to come, we got things covered without a M1 Carbine. So, I'm in no rush to deal with AMS customer service.
However, if I can't swap it out or they can't send me a new one, it will give me the chance to try to paint a wood pattern of sorts.

Last call for loaner gear. Let me know if you need me to bring something. Patrick, you're covered.
Also, I came very close to not being able to make this, the good news is I'll be there, the bad news is I may be running slightly late. Will meet the group at the field if need be.

I think we need y straps and a belt with ammo pouches for a possible guy coming with us. I have a small/medium size uniform that may fit him, not sure as I have never met him. Might be a good idea to bring a whole loadout with uniform in case my stuff doesnt fit.

So we do not need the extra set of gear. See you all in the morning, and safe traveling to all of you!

Yeah, hopefully pictures of the Allies this time, unlike OP Overlord this year, haha. Nah, those were some good shots of the Germans, though.
We are crashing the night at a hotel here in North Plainfield, can't wait for tomorrow!
I actually managed to pack my German loadout, so if the sides need to be evened out on Sunday, I'm down to jump ship. And despite the conversation, if any one need borderline decent loaner German gear and a crude looking Kar98 for Saturday, I got it.

While the rest of us go about the humdrum day to day mediocrity of life, take a moment to appreciate that on some far off battlefield these brave reenactors. Are caught up in the intensity of simulated combat. Let us know how it went! We are all thinking about you!
We lesser men are with you in spirit!

How's the weather? Is it appropriate for the Huertgen?
(Some years ago we were doing a Battle of the Bulge here in December, in the low '70's)

Are caught up in the intensity of simulated combat. Let us know how it went! We are all thinking about you! We lesser men are with you in spirit! Thank you for your accolades. Men (and woman) braved nippy weather, with the constant risk of a twisted ankle or a branch in the face lurking around every corner. Some even had to endure wet feet and-- shocking as it may sound-- nettles catching on their woolens. We fight so that you may sit home and watch WWII documentaries on TV. I have retired from the fray, but my thoughts go out to those who continue the struggle, and may pay the ultimate price of a BB in the face. That stings! Volksturm: Huertgenwald was a battleground for so long, it's hard NOT to get appropriate weather. But conditions were (and remain) great. Just the kind of weather you'd imagine when you think "late autumn."

It only occurred to me just now, but I easily could have done what I needed to do this morning and driven back down for today's combat. Oh well, next time!

Alright guys! Time for my two cents on the event and links to all the photos! I don't think gaming the first day was fun for anyone, to be honest. Both sides seemed to just be cursed with weapon malfunctions. Outside the game, was great though. My guys and I thank Graham and his family for all the hospitality. It was great to meet some more guys in the area and good to see old faces again. However, the second day, the curse seemed to have uplifted. Everyone that played all had functional guns, and the combat got intense! Even for the short amount of time we had to play. Shout outs to Nate for offering the BAR and Garand, again to Graham and his family for everything logistics wise and selling my team a boneyard Stg44, Mark for offering to make my crappy Kar98 look good, and everyone else I met and made the weekend awesome. Now time for pics! I'll do them two ways here! First way, you can check them out on my Dropbox by following the link. You shouldn't need a Dropbox account or anything to view these, but if there is a problem, let me know. www.dropbox.com/sh/lnbhpyoxc580cso/AAAgvb0V4-eLwr-_rBY6sWcSa?dl=0Second way! I uploaded them to my Facebook. My profile should be public, in case you don't have a FB, or you aren't a "friend" on my FB, you should be able to view them. If you want to add me and tag yourself in the photos, go right ahead! Just note to those who know my real name, me and my wife do not use our real names on FB. Hence, the extremely weird and nerdy handles that we have, haha. Album: www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.949111531784865&type=1&l=9acbc3c2eeMy profile: www.facebook.com/marluxia.tepes

Great pictures. Graham, what pattern is your tunc? is that OAK A? It looks like it would be highly effective in the terrain seen.

the smock? its mid/late overprint 1/2 (marked 5/6). I cant stand oak, and refuse to wear it (besides the helmet cover, but that's for different reasons)

Its quite distinctive. I have to say the variety of SS camo patterns is mind boggling. What is the basis for your visceral opinion on OAK? Why okay on a helmet.? Its always interesting to hear your thoughts on such things.

Mark (Insterberger) interesting to see you rockin the FJ look!

Actually, that's not FJ-- it's Luftwaffe Field Divisions. Some of the differences from a FJ look are the blue-gray pants (perhaps not visible), the shoulder rank insignia, and use of a standard helmet instead of the cut down FJ one. Briefly, the Luftwaffe Field Divisions were surplus air force troops who were repurposed as infantry after the disaster at Stalingrad. The arrogant fool Goering wouldn't give up control over his men, so they were kept under LW control. They were given fresh collar tabs on standard LW tunics (green Waffenfarbe) which were covered with a combat smock similar to the FJ jump smock. Lacking any combat experience or officers who knew anything about infantry combat, they were decimated early on, with the Russians purposely victimizing them when they spotted the distinctive uniforms. I'm the only guy with the impression in the NE, but that's not a problem: As the war went on, their procurement shifted from LW to army chain of supply, so they increasingly wore bits and pieces of standard army uniform and kit, until by the end of the war some LW Field Division soldiers were indistinguishable from Heer (in some pictures, the presence of LW award badges is the only clue)... so any standard German infantry we field can always be called LW, and going forward we can get bits of LW kit to guys with standard impression to create a plausible late war LW-Feld unit with an "Alte Hase" and a bunch of newer guys, or guys with lost or worn out kit.
After all that explanation, thanks for the props! It was fun sporting something a bit different, and I hope some guys in our unit will take on LW Field Division as an alternate impression. As stated, the joy of it is that it's very easy to build a kit up from a basic Heer impression-- start with a blue breadbag or Gamaschen, and add what you can as you can.

John, oak is totally overused, in every aspect of reenacting. However, ATF is the only place that makes covers that fit my small helmet (most are too big), and they currently just do oak. When their new patterns come out, you can bet im ditching the oak real fast. The only thing I like in oak are parka sets- nothing more, waaaaaaaaay too overused.
