Used to be a fairly active group around here doing Vietnam. Haven't heard much about it lately. Seems like the local kids all want to be SOCOM or Russians now.

One of those weird thoughts I think about. At the beginning of the war, the British approached Smith and Wesson about building a "light rifle" for them, actually a submachinegun, which the Brits had turned their noses up at earlier. The result was pretty much a complete failure. www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoeGGm_V9mwWhat if S&W had just pulled out the plans for the MP 18, tidied it up a bit for easier production, and started cranking them out? They would have been as good, if not better, than the Sten Gun. And we'd have another fun airsoft model to play with.

What a hideously designed gun. Ugly, goofy set up. Pretty obvious why it wasn't successful. The Pontiac Aztec of Smith &Wesson guns.

Makes you wonder sometimes what people were thinking. Oddly enough, the Brits did adopt a weapon based on the MP28/II, the Lanchester smg. Only used by the Royal Navy and to some extent by the RAF (and if I recall, in that so-so TV series, "The Rat Patrol"). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanchester_submachine_gunSomething I didn't know until I read the Wiki article is that it was the RAF that initiated the project, with the RN joining in. One would think the British Army would have been the one requesting it. If they'd asked S&W to rework it as a simplified design for mass production they would have had something.

There used to be a ton of Vietnam airsoft in Connecticut. I used to go with four or five of my friends and we had a hell of a time. Most of the guys there were high school or college students so we fit in well, and a lot of the older guys were actually Vietnam vets.

Did you go Liberty Canyon at Wolcott? Also did you perhaps go to RECONDO School a couple years later? If so I put on both of those events!

It was a two day event if I remember correctly? Well done planning it, that was a lot of fun. Unfortunately I couldn't make Recondo School though. GZA in Wolcott used to be my go to place for Vietnam airsoft, and I've attended every WWII event held there as well since 2011, except for the most recent one last month. Just out of curiosity, do have any future plans for any Vietnam events in the area? Or heard of any for that matter?

There was a local Historical Mil Sim group that paid to have us come out and put on both events. They were a lot of fun and the support personnel on hand supplemented the six of us who flew out. They were pretty top drawer events. The local group unfortunately as is usually the case was lead by an energetic, charismatic fellow who burned out after supporting several events.

It sure was, my buddies and I had a hell of a time. That's too bad the guy leading the group got burned out (although I did as well soon after). They hosted quite a few really good events, some of which were a lot smaller in scale compared to Liberty Canyon and RECONDO.

Was that a guy named Wade, over in the Spokane area? Never met him but a friend of mine used to go his Vietnam events. Haven't heard anything about him for a while.

Wade came to RECONDO school maybe five years ago. His group is USMC big time and remains involved in NAM Softing and all things Marine Corp. He showed up with his orders in full on Class A Khakis and had top notch impressions for every phase of the event. He was a character and was among the half of the class that graduated. Got a kick out of WADE.
The Group in the NE that hosted our events was Historical Mil Sim and the driving force behind it was LTMAC. He was actually the fellow who created molds for the BC1000s and Nam Era PRC 25-77s. I have eight of those and two of the BC1000s. He was a very creative and passionate guy but his business took a major financial turn and he had some serious family health issues which caused him to direct his focus away from airsoft (understandably). With him gone the group lost its enthusiasm. Active participation within an area is often driven by one or two guys and without those spark plugs things just don't fire.
