Being a part of this community has shown me that our WWII interests aren't only limited to WW2AA Events or Reenactments. Right now, I am currently taking part in the Connecticut 84 Hour Film Challenge, and our production team has decided to tackle a WWII period film. And, we've decided to try to make this as ambitious, and authentic, as possible, for a student film. Which is where you all fine gentlemen come in. We need help, as sadly there is not a large following of WWII reenactors currently in CT, nor do I simply have the supplies to equip every member of our production team/student body for this film. Now, if any of you are like me, which I assume many of you are, you probably have, from childhood, always wanted to take place in a WWII film, even as an extra, just to say, "Hey! I was apart of that!", or "Look there I am!", to some buddies. Well, now I offer you guys the chance. We may not be as big as Hollywood productions like Band of Brothers, The Pacific, or Fury, but we desperately need extras and I felt that I needed not to look much farther for those who might be interested. I also figured this would be a great for another two reasons: 1) I would be able to meet all of you; and 2) WE, as a community, may be able to get more people interested in World War Two orientated Airsoft/Reenacting. Below is the letter we came up with, and will be sending to other potential parties, such as Museums and Reenactment Groups. If you'd like to participate, or if you have any questions, please feel free to comment and or contact our instructor, whose contact information, plus more general information about the film, is included inside the letter below.
Thank you all for your reading this,
Sincerely, Matthew1943.
Our Letter:
Dear WWII Enthusiasts and Reenactors,
East Haven High School Creative Media Club is participating in the 2014-15 CT 84-Hour Film Challenge. This contest challenges Connecticut high school media students to complete an original 3 minute film in only 84 hours. East Haven has won this statewide competition twice.
This year, we are producing a WWII period film (European Theatre, late stage post Normandy). We are seeking interested reenactors who possess any authentic United States Army outfits/personal equipment to be cast as extras. We also request, that if possible, you bring any and all extra authentic WWII equipment (web gear, helmets, boots, packs, ammo belts, etc), or authentic reproductions, that can be used in the film as props or to equip other extras in the film. Only NON-FUNCTIONING weapons will be allowed on set. Our goal is to try to be as authentic as possible and we would love your support.
We have a limited window of time to complete our filming for this challenge. We anticipate filming predominantly on Saturday, December 06, 2014 in the daytime (exact times/location to be determined). If you are interested, please contact our instructor Jay Miles at jmiles@east-haven.k12.ct.us to confirm your participation.
