A couple weeks ago Patrick and I put on a display at the theater for the local premier of 'Fury'. The theater owners are friends and know I collect WW2 American militaria. I pulled this display together in about a week. A full look at the display. It gives a very small glimpse at GI life in the ETO, 1944-1945. This mannequin portrays a garrison MP, England, early 1944. The canteen at left once belonged to Major General Russell Hartle, C.O. of the 34th ID 1941-1942. A lightweight gasmask with bag. Normally the mask was thrown out by frontline troops who then used the bag to carry extra ammo, rations, etc. The mannequin portrays an ammo bearer for an MG crew of the 2nd AD, Normandy, August 1944. He wears an M2 ammo vest carrying two .30 cal. ammo cans. He also has shoulder pads for carrying various equipment. An 82nd Airborne trooper behind the lines near Nijmegen, September 1944. Note the two M6A1 bazooka rounds. A 30th ID, "FDR's SS", infantryman in the Ardennes Forest, January, 1945. He wears a wool gas hood, originally meant to be worn with the gas mask in case of a gas attack, and the U.S. Army overcoat. Myself on the left and Patrick on the right. I'm portraying a 101st airborne trooper, June 1944. Patrick is portraying an infantryman of the 41st Armored Infantry Regiment of the 2nd Armored Division. The 41st was one of the few American units in the ETO to be issued camouflage.
