After a while using original wool uniforms I have started to consider getting a repro set so as not to destroy originals. My question is if you use repro wool uniforms and if you do, what brand and how do you like them?

I have a Hiki M44 and the wool feels and looks good.It may not be #1 quality but for airsofting it will do the job.Their tunic prices aren't bad except shipping but other than that I recommend it.

I don't think hikishop makes US wools.. I don't have personal experience with them but I would imagine ATF's are pretty good. Though ATF's wools cost several times that of an original set.

If you aren't a stickler for accuracy, the Korean era wool pants are pretty good and pretty cheap. A surplus near me sells them for like 10 or 15 bucks. Can't argue with that.

You can buy WWII ones on ebay also for around $20, provided you wear a small size. That's not really the point though. If you want/need a repro, I would just go with ATF.

The reality is millions upon millions of sets of wool pants and shirts were produced and there are still plenty of them around in decent enough shape to use. (if you are small enough to fit into them). the average American GI at the beggining of the war had a 34 inch chest and a 29 waist! by wars end they had grown to a wapping 36 inch chest and 30 inch waist. hence the small sizes.
The few occassions annually when such uniforms would be worn would have little long term effect on their wear. For that reason and the cost I say go with the rel deal if you can. korean war trousers tend to be available in larger sizes as well and a quite close in details. For those hating the scratchy feel of wool during the Summer months your feelings would no doubt change if you're wearing them through the cold evening hours for several days in the field but the pseudo wool cotton shirts look quite good and are much eaier to care for (no dry cleaning bills)
I really like the look of wools an M41 and leggings with a netted steel pot and a haversack.

The only difference I'm aware of between Korean War and WWII wool pants are that the Korean War ones have a zipper. Patrick, where are you getting that they are blue? Are you thinking of pre-war denim fatigue/work uniforms?

Well its not blue, but its a brighter green... It looks like the old ATF us wool pants when they were bright green.

Honestly, why not just go with repros. US stuff isn't horribly expensive. I don't really understand the use of postwar gear except as loaners, or possibly footwear.

In this case, repros are more expensive than originals. And since the original poster has original WWII wools, I think he should just stick with those. He's not wearing an original M42 reinforced uniform or anything, every man who was enlisted into the US Army was issued a set of wool shirt and trousers. Besides, as 2nd Bat had already said, wearing them a few times a year to games won't hurt them for a while, they were after all made to be used IN A WAR. They held up to being worn all the way across Europe, I think they'll survive a few airsoft games.

Thanks for all the replies. The reason I've been thinking of repros is because I wear a 34x34 trousers which is hard to find original and when I do find them I don't want to tear them up. Does anyone know about WPG Wools? They have a good price but might not be as good as ATF. Originals seem to be the best option just I can't stand tearing up originals even if it is the most common thing around.

The "greener" korean War wool trousers fade to a more commonly seen shade of WW2 ish OD after field use. A perfectly inane thing for stitch Nazis to whine about but whatever floats your boat. US issued field uniforms varied tremendously even when brand new and certainly showed wide wid variance once fielded.

All the Korean pants I've seen, and the one my wife uses for colder weather, are pretty dark green. Not bright at all.

No Korean war trousers won't cut it. They're too baggy and the wrong color. patrickl29th Are you speaking of WPG wools or just WPG in general?

I can't give you a good lead on repros, since I don't have any yet, but I'll throw my opinion out there anyways. The way I see it, originals stopped beings made in 1945. They're never going to make another pair of original M-1937 wools ever again. There was a time where Civil War uniforms were in everyone's attic, considered cheap junk - kids would play in "grandpa's old uniform". Could you imagine nowadays? I'll rock originals all day long for specific activities - parades, static displays, and photo shoots. I use repros for beater field uniforms - no guilt. Not a system for everyone, but it's the one I prefer.

@booniefox That is the exact reason I want repros.
