So the title really says all of it but I'm curious as to what got you interested in actually going out and investing in a full uniform and weapon. Shifty and I are trying to get interest in Michigan up to previous levels because it seems like it's been waning in current years. It'd be interesting to understand what makes us all throw hundred of dollars on our impressions and guns just to play one or two full WWII Airsoft games a year. For me, it was the teamwork and maturity of most all of the player that attended the games that I went to. Instead of bb hoses and lone-wolfing, I experienced teamwork combined with communication and tactics for the first time ever while playing airsoft. Also my deep interest in history may have played a part... Let me know what you guys have to say!

The love of history has to be the main attraction I suppose and a particular fascination with that period. For me the method of recreational play is just more fun. Whether its Namsofting or WW2 Airsoft the application of unit cohesion, viable (albeit scaled way down) tactics and overall more emmersive engagement has been a surprising bi product.
I used to enjoy traditional airsoft events but they just no longer hold my interest. I love being able to tell at a glance who the enemy is and seeing folks accurately representing a time in history. Add in the camp life, role playing aspect and use of vehicles and mission briefs, story lines etc. (where available) and it mkes for a wonderful escape.
A friend once described it as: a movie you're in where everyone is their own lead character and everyone gets several cool death scenes!
Airsoft assumes honor as a key element of gameplay and seems to get it more consistently with historic players.

I have yet to be any event but plan on going to the Michigan airsoft front soon. For me its the uniforms and gear (mostly German but I'm expanding to other nations). The German gear and tunics looks so good and very functional.WW2 Airsofting for me is the type of thing I want to get into because with airsoft I know I'm hitting someone instead of blanks.I've always been into the World Wars so wasting money on gear and uniforms isn't so much a waste, cheaper than actually collecting the real things. To be around in the field will be great sensation.
BTW,2nd Bat,what events do you normally fight in?From the sound of it your fields sounds great.

I would have to say my love of learning of WWII in history class in school, and more specifically the WWII class I took in college. Growing up with movies such as Saving Private Ryan and playing video games such as Brothers in Arms really got me into it. I was in heaven when I first got my CYMA Thompson and its been history since with my WWII collecting.

I am in the Pacific Northwest where Hellmutts Battlesim productions was the initial catalyst. The Long Winter Series of Games, Jump to Destiny and now Carentan and Loshiem Gap series are the events I attend and support. I have also travelled out to Browniens events in NY and would love to attend some OST Front games.

In the winter of 2006 my brother came upon this site and told me about it. Our next stop was Reenactorfest held in Chicago's northern suburbs where we purchased stuff from Captain Zak. Both my brother and I grew up watching several WW2 themed television shows and along with an interest in history, wargaming, and play acting, this hobby was a natural progression. We actually played bb wars when we were younger in the 1970's when we shot metal bb's at each other. Plastic seemed so much more humane. As 2nd Bat says, the hobby is a great escape and it actually led us into reenacting as well. There are so many facets of the hobby too. For us, vehicles are a big draw. Tinkering with custom airsoft production, and camping are all extras. We even got to participate in a motion picture so yeah, it's been a lot of fun.
2nd Bat, Our Fort McCoy event this year should be pretty good if you're considering an Ostfront event.

Since you would be coming from a distance, let Mike or I know if we can help with anything when the event rolls around in August.

Well, I've airsofted for a good seven or eight years... I've always been a history buff, especially when it comes to military equipment and gear. I've always been a huge enthusiast of the WWII period. About three or more years ago I played CoD WWII, and instantly decided I wanted to give WWII airsofting a go... Yes, a video game got bme started, back off. We all started somewhere...
But at that time I didn't have a ton of funds, and my modern gear wasn't worth all that much. But I did what anyone as stupid as me would do: I sold all my modern gear... It didn't come out to much, but I planned on joining Sgt. Tom's Michigan WWII outfit. After a short while, I don't remember what happened but I just lost interest. So I decided to instead go into modern day impressions of the Army SF which led me to impressions of Devgru (and almost forming a MI chapter of Devtsix), thence to becoming the Crye Junkie I am. But I never lost my interest in WWII. Once again, I don't remember how it happened but a month or so ago I started looking into a WWII impression and then a week or so ago I decided to take the plunge... I'm not going to sell my modern stuff (that didn't work out well last time, and I also am the CO of a MilSim team) but I'm slowly building a kit.

Back around 2001 I was thinking of trying paintball. Looking for a paintball field I found out about Airsoft. The group I used to play with did an annual Battle of the Bulge game (hasn't happened in a few years now). I'm a military history nut, particularly WWII, so it developed from there, though I'm mostly a chairsofter anymore.
