Just grazing the surface here.
I'd like to know who would be up for a event at Ground Zero in Wolcott, CT on Saturday, April 11, 2015.
But before everyone jumps the gun, please understand the following particulars:
1) This date is during the Easter/Spring Break. Easter is Sunday, April 5th, so the 11th is the following weekend.
2) This will be a one day event only. No Sunday option as GZA holds their own pick up game every Sunday that attracts over 80 players. It would be way too expensive to bump that game.
3) Friday night is usually available for any who wish to camp out the previous night. But that is something I would need to work out with the field owner prior to the event.
4) Cost would be a bit pricey. I would like to keep the cost to around $50.00 per player but could be higher based on committed players. GZA is not cheap and requires a deposit to hold the date. So I would need the membership here to step up and sign up asap.
5) Camping out Saturday may be a possibility. In the past, those who camped out had to leave early Sunday before the pick up game started. You could stay for that, but then you would have to do that on your own.
6) Attendance must be a lot higher than what we've been getting most recently. At most of my past GZA events, I always had at least 30, but usually we had attendance somewhere between 40-50 players. We would probably need at least 30 to make this happen. I'm hoping that this event can bring back some of our "old regulars" that use to frequent the GZA games. I'm hoping that they see this and chime in as well.
So what I'm asking here is for anyone who is interested to respond here. Once I get an idea if this is possible, I'll get the ball rolling or move on to something else.
Thanks for your attention and hope to here from a lot of members real soon.

Sounds like a good plan! We really do need to get back to where we were a couple of years ago, having even 30-40 players for events was really cool. I wasn't sure where all those guys went to, but I would imagine the distance for some would be a factor, being that most recent events have been in NYS or NJ. I wouldn't mind travelling for events again. CT isn't that far away, and if we can get some of the old blood back and numbers up, whose to say we can't get the word out further of some even fresher blood into the hobby. This with even attending some larger modern events at GZA as promotional purposes would help out too. The big thing with promotional events though, we can get 60-70-80-90 people at ww2 only events (theoretically) but if we can only get a handful of guys to attend promotional events, very few modern guys are going to want to take the plunge. I do plan on working with the new airsoft place near Albany NY in doing a ww2 promo event sometime later this year. But unfortunately, I wont be able to make this event in April.

It would be possible, but Connecticut is stretching the range Scott and I are willing (or able to find drivers willing) to go. At least that weekend is at the end of spring break for me. I'm not saying I can't make it, but I'm not saying yes either.

I have always liked the Ground Zero venue and have hosted a few Vietnam Events there myself. (Liberty Canyon and RECONDO School). It is a great venue.

Which I really want to go to one of these days, but I traded/sold off most of my Vietnam era guns for and to buy WWII stuff, haha.

Migs,
I have been working concurrently to try to set up an event for the very same weekend in a different part of Connecticut (Northeastern CT). The venue would not be as developed as GZA, no structures or field fortifications, although there are numerous stone walls and a variety of terrain. It would have the benefit of being low or no cost and include the possibility of Sunday play. Most importantly given the state of the hobby in the Northeast, it would not be contingent on recruiting a certain number of players.
It's looking more and more likely that I can get this event up and running, but I don't want to step on your toes either. Let me know how far along or committed you are to the Ground Zero option, and I can keep working on this. I am VERY confident that I can get this field and make a game happen, but again don't want to steal your thunder. Please advise, through this thread or PM are both fine.

Yes! The wife is pregnant but I'd love to get in on some ww2 after a long break. I'll bring a guy or two from my team as well - if there's French Resistance slots that is.

Game is on for April, but we will be at an alternate venue in Connecticut (Woodstock area). Keep your eyes open for an event announcement to be coming soon. There will be an option for resistance/civilian fighter slots, but given the scenario under development, they will be on the German side. Volkssturm, to be specific. Either way, come on down and bring your friends-- we will also have some loaner gear/weapons available.

I fully support and differ to this event. Maybe one day we'll do something again at GZA, but not this April. That will be Mark's event!! Good luck. Migs

This is very exciing guys. I hate to say it but spring and summer games have an easier go than the winter games that have recently been held. The cold is tough for turnout, challenging for even short drives and really hard on airsoft guns, batteries and the players. Spring and summer also brings out the foliage which facilitates closer in engagement distances which is critical for airsoft.
Hopefully the warmer weather will stimulate several WW2 gatherings. thank you Migs and Mark for hosting and supporting WW2 airsoft. Putting on an event is a lot of energy, expense and to do well takes a lot of focus and time. Without folks willing to step up and do it, with the talent to do it well, WW2 airsoft is just a web site.

Mark is still working on the details, but I'm sure something will be posted on a new thread shortly. Cheers, Migs

Like I said to the event being held in Woodstock, if it's being held in CT I should be able to come. I have a full U.S kit, and frequent GZA often. I love their field, and I am currently trying to get some of my friends to convert to the WWII side of things. Unless anything unexpected comes up, count me in.
Edit: read the replies, even if it's not at GZA, I still will try to attend. Like I said in the Woodstock thread, and above, so long as nothing comes up I should be able to attend.

Yes, The originally discussed GZA event has been rolled into another CT event for the same weekend. Hence I will lock this thread and direct folks to the Ruhr Pocket event.
