Heeresgruppe Nord-Ost Presents
************EVENT CANCELLED***************Last Stand in the West: The Ruhr Pocket
When: April (10) 11-12, 2015
The field owner-- who I have considered a close friend-- has ceased answering my phone calls and emails, despite repeated attempts at reaching him. I told him almost two weeks ago that I needed five minutes of his time, and didn't hear back from him. Honestly, I have no idea if he's sick, hurt, dead, or just blowing me off, and I have no way of finding out.
I could keep moving forward with this in hopes that he suddenly becomes responsive, but in fairness to the players I really think the best option is to call the event off-- better that we cancel now before too many travel plans are made than have players show up to the field and have no place to play day of.
I apologize to all the members who were planning in this as the NE spring event, and especially to Migs who had been trying to make something happen at GZA. Not sure we would have had the numbers to make that work either, but the least that could be said is that it couldn't have turned out any worse.
What also sucks is that I had very high hopes that this field would be a viable option going forward to draw players not only from Connecticut, but also from Massachusetts and the rest of the North East. Needless to say, that dream is dead.
I'm especially regretful because this event was going to unveil a new and immersive type of gameplay that I think would have really been fun and exciting for the players (and team commanders). I spent a ton of time planning out the scenarios and game elements for this event (in addition to spending several hundred bucks on materials). If there's any good news, it's that a lot of the work I've done can be successfully adapted to future events at other fields. Hopefully later this year we will be able to set up a game at an established field where we can introduce this model.
Again, my deep apologies to all the players in the NE. I'm sure you are unhappy about this, trust me when I say no one is unhappier than me.

Lol seeing everyone get into events makes me jealous :DAbsolutely no such thing in Ohio :|Would love to be in the thick of a fight. It sounds cool though and the winter conditions would just add to the "war-wearyness".

Its a bit too far out to tell if we can make it or not. If I do go, I'll try bringing my loaner stuff. Not sure of impressions we would bring, but we are willing to be flexible and go to whatever side we are needed. Maybe do the thing we planned last time and go one side on saturday and switch over to others on sunday.
While the negative temps of Battle of the Bulge did suck, I don't want it to get warm! After being stationed in SoCal for 5 years, I don't want this winter to end! I'm actually being serious about it. I'm just about done with warm weather for a looooong time, if ever, haha.

Yes! Finally an event I can actually attend as I live in CT. I should be able to make this one, so long as nothing unexpected comes up. Hopefully I can bring a few friends along as well from my casual airsoft crew. How many players have registered already, anyone know?

I too love the GZA field and I hope that you can bring some of the casual players up with you. I hosted several events there and I miss the field and all those regular WW2 players that use to attend. So I'm really happy to hear that some "new Blood" may be coming up, especially from the GZA area.

We have about 10 who are on board who I am extremely sure will follow through, and about another 4 who are either interested and TBD or said yes but I'm not sure about. Very good numbers for this far out!

Very good numbers for this far out! Very encouraging numbers so far. Hopefully we can get somewhere close to at least 30. It amazes me how we used to always get 40plus. Some events we had 60. Ah, the good old days.

Might have to roll in 4/11. Probably with Tom Kish. Does the field have a street #? Viper. PS: US infantry.

Stuff like this is so darn frustrating. I read your post hours ago and can’t stop thinking about it. It seems like everyone on this forum communicates thoroughly and politely with each other, so it hurts to find out that one of you has been cut off by a field owner and left in limbo after having put so much into an upcoming event. Field owners hold a lot of power over us, but everyone deserves the decency of a response even if the message will only disappoint. I wasn’t even planning on attending due to prior commitments, but I greatly respect you for your endeavor and for making such a tough decision given these exasperating circumstances. I’ll bet a lot of others feel the same way. Certainly, a lot of us have privileged lives that allow us to enjoy this expensive pastime. But, when I read something like this, it upsets me more than when I read about most international tragedies perhaps because what happened to you hits closer to my heart as a deeply invested airsofter. I really feel for you and hope that this won’t inhibit your motivation to organize future events. Your efforts are very much appreciated!

I do want to say this publicly, that in no way shape or form should this be a blemish on Marks reputation or character. He has done right by us, giving more than enough advance noticed that this event had to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. I too went through something similar several years ago before my first event as the field owner flaked on me as well.
What I can say is Mark and myself will be pooling our resources and brainstorming to try and get another event going here in the NE in the near future. we may do one individually or jointly, but either way, he has my full support. What I do propose is to keep this thread open for discussions and suggestions for possible field locations and dates for the near future.
But once again, well done Mark, no worries and let's just press on.

Ditto to OMEGO and SFC MIGS. Venues are the bane of our hobby as finding, securring and keeping a good, safe, legal and supportive field is always harder than it seems like it should be. So much focus, energy and expense go into sponsoring any airsoft event, especially themed events and nothing but praise comes from me for anyone willing to take them on, I know you will succeed in your efforts. CHARLIE MIKE! (Continue the Mission)

Thanks for the kind words from all, and Migs is right that we need to get a game going in these parts ASAP. It's a bigger blow for me to lose the venue long-term than the individual game, and while we can fall back on GZA it has its drawbacks and I'm already trying to think out of the box to look into alternate venues in Connecticut.
WWII Airsoft WILL come back to CT, and soon.

I really hope to see you guys here soon. Lack of transportation out of state has really barred me from leaving CT, effectively preventing me from going to any NY or Penn based events. Best of luck on future endeavors.

Looking forward to a game with you, Matthew. Already trying to think outside the box and see what we can bring to the Nutmeg State.
