Just noticed this at Evike. The main thing I noticed is the price. At $117 this could be cheaper than buying a real steel stock and hardware for a conversion. www.evike.com/products/28676/

Unfortunately, it just looks like a rebrand of the DBOYS and S&T Kar98's.

Sadly this seems to be the case. You know there will be issues with these guns when there is a disclaimer saying it is for display only and they do not guarantee that the gun will function. At that point I really wonder what the point is. With Denix and other deactivated options, I can't imagine many collectors buying up a pot-metal and plastic replica.

Unfortunately, I'm beginning to think that the only reason that these are still being made, is to cash out on us WWII airsofters who buy these for the sole purpose of the springer mods....
A&K should be better than this, their other stuff is pretty good.

Maybe we should stop buying these kar98s and go to the places that sell reproduction stocks

One of the main reasons why they go this route is because they don't have to spend any time on research and development. D-boys already had the design work all done for them. All they needed to do was copy the machinery and they can keep the costs down. This is why the new mosins are a copy of zeta labs, gas k98's a copy of tanaka, etc. All we need is for one company to actually develop a good springer and we will then see clones of that instead of the poor quality D-boys model.

It's very disheartening to see things like this because I am waiting to attain a bar98/kar98k. I don't understand how companies haven't seen the potential in vsr compatible ww2 rifles. Ah well back to paste/wood projects.

I guess the "good news" in this is that the boneyard DBoys 98k's have been getting pretty sparse lately. Given the expected build quality on these, there should be a whole new crop of broken and unserviceable rifles to use in our conversions.

At the cost of real steel components, why wait for the boneyard specials if you can get a new gun for a little over a hundred and have all the parts you need for a conversion (except of course a VSR10 or Bar10)?

If the plan is to build one the savings from picking up a boneyard Kar 98 vs a new fully functional one whose mechanicals are going to get thrown out is no big deal but several people here have plans for making a number of them as loaners or rental guns and even saving $45.00 per build adds up.

If you're in a hurry to make a build and need the parts now, the price isn't crazy and by all means buy a new gun. But if NIB versions are $117, you can figure that boneyarders will be right around half of that. And within a month or two, they should start cropping up at a high ratio to whatever number of new ones have been sold. Personally, I like getting twice as much for my money, but maybe I'm just weird that way.

No, it makes perfect sense to get the most for your money.

It also seems less wasteful as the guts are worthless for our purposes when we convert to Bar 10 internals. Such a pitty (as stated elsewhere) that none of these companies build what clearly our market wants. The whole shell ejecting, forward plunging spring is just so unappealing for practical airsoft use. I have to believe a ground up traditional spring bolt action in a KAR 98 body would be a $100.00 to $125.00 item and would be well received by every 14 year old video war gamer who transitions from Medal of Honor or Close Combat or any of a number of games with a WW2 bent to airsoft!

What is odd now, is that Evike is showing this A&K Kar98 to be discontinued. Not only that, the only other shell ejecting one is the gas variant that was cloned by S&T.
The original shell ejecting one from DBoy's is no longer existing on the site, and listing for the S&T clone isn't found either.
I don't know whats going on, but I might fear that these are stopped being made all together. Which is no bueno. At least we these, we can still make Kar98's.
