Since flares were used a lot in WW2 and many other conflicts to mark objectives, target areas, and other things, I was thinking if flares for ww2 airsoft was possible.
Are flares already in use in ww2 airsoft?
Please move if in the wrong section.

It depends on the event and terrain conditions during the event. We use a lot of pyro at games in the NW but during the Summer when its dry we sometimes have to skip flares and even smoke grenades on occassion. Sometimes the property owner or venue doesn't allow it but when they do and its safe we use flares and tracer units extensively.

Are the use of flares when allowed restricted to squad leaders/officers, or do all players have access to these?

I think it would be wise to make sure of who your neighbors are and let them know what you are up to before deploying parachute flares or anything else that might be seen by people off-property and misinterpreted as a distress signal. The last thing you want is police, fire, and EMTs descending on your venue en masse just to find out you were marking an enemy position.

It is ALWAYS advisable to inform neighbors and the authorities if you plan to employ smoke, flares, simulated explosives. In some cases and some locations such items cannot be legally utilized without a licensed pyrotechnician and proper permits. Irresponsible use of such items can result in bad publicity that can hurt our hobby so be prudent in their use.

I live in dry dry Utah, and having started a fire myself once upon a time, I avoid pyro as a rule. Anyone have any ideas of non-pyro flare type equipment? One idea I have considered is solar powered security lights available at harbor Frieght. They are solar charged and motion activated, and I assume are quite bright, as they are for "security". They would be something you could carry in a backpack and deploy at night around OPs. In my mind it would replicate a trip flare in many respects, though the electric eye is different from a tripwire, I think it would certainly produce the desired effect and emotions if you triggered one set up near an enemy OP. The only difference is it would stay on as long as someone was moving near it, where a real flare would burn out.

At a Vietnam event in CT I went to where pyro was not allowed a fellow got very creative with his pneumatic mortar and while it normally fired three tennis balls at a time. At night he fired tennis balls drenched in the fluid used in snap lights and the effect was quite cool with no fire threat.
Military parachute flares are extremely illuminating and there really is no non pyro way to fully replicate that. The super bright lED security lights if suspended above ground and perhaps remote controlled might be effective?

While checking out this operation eastwind ispired event I saw what sounds like a great flare option. From centralwar.com/events/Purchase-Weapons.shtml"High and Extra-high intensity Cyalume light sticks. These approach the light of a pyro flare but are entirely cold, silent, and non-toxic so can be used in any conditions, regardless of fire hazard. Snap lights are 6" long and are cracked by hand to activate. Impact lights are 15" long and illuminate on impact so you can drop or throw them." Typed in Cyalume on Amazon and many results popped up. www.amazon.com/Cyalume-SnapLight-Industrial-Alternative-Intensity/dp/B004NBZL8I
