Do most airsoft sites allow frags in private games? Also wanted to know if frags are used by most of you guys & if so which ones, the stick grenade ones seem pretty good if only for effect

Greatly dependent on the individual fields' rules. To answer which ones we use, some of us just started to make our own foam-headed stick grenades for the Germans. As for the Allies, I know myself and 2ndBat at least, use these here: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003M2K9AOYou can't beat that price, and they actually make noise, too. When fields allow it, I know that some north east guys use civilian smoke "grenades". I don't much about them, so I'll let others who've used them to talk more about them.

The allied ones? No BB's. You aren't getting that fancy for that cheap, and none of the fancy ones are close to WWII ones, as the dimensions are distorted to fit Co2 canisters. They are almost kiddie dollar store toys, that make the countdown noise before making an explosion noise. Pretty fun to just play with.
For the stick grenades, browse around recent threads in the Armory section here (forgot what sub-section). Threads was created with detailed info and such.

The mst common use of frags is simply a dummy grenade thrown that doesn't do anything. The chemical PEA grenades are also used. They are intiated with the pull of string and blow up spreading peas but are spotty at best. the report is cool however. the rules are not unlike inert thrown grenades. If it lands within 10 feet of you without a substantial obstacle between you and it. (wall, large log etc) you're eliminated. i like the little toy grenades as they sort of look right. Have a timer and sound effect and won't hurt anyone of they get popped in the noggin by one. they are also really inexpensive. i bought a douple dozen of them and issue them out with no real fear about them getting lost.
insterberger gave a nice tutorial on making foam capped "potatoe mashers" inexpensively and while not perfect they actually work and look pretty good. grenades are an essential aspect of land combat and when used liberally can enhance safety at Airsoft events as they eliminate the need for blind firing into rooms or bunkers which can be very dangerous and result in engagements that are far too close to be safe. from a gameplay perspective they also reduce "campers" as suspected locations in climps of brush can be "fragged" during assaults.
