Hi, I will try to make an US radio BC 611. It is simple but I haven't dimensions, if anybody have it. I start with a wood shape. Then I use a PVC tube which is heat up in my oven (100° during 5 min) for having it very soft. The shape is forced into the tube and I haven't do it but it needs to be planed. But I'm satisfyied with this firt shot. Cut at the good lenght and that all for today.

Interesting technique. I never thought of using heat to reshape PVC pipe.

You never cease to amaze me. There are some on this board who have real and replica "handy talkies" who could give to dimensions. Keep us posted this on your progress.

There is nothing amazing in this topic, it is very simple to do. It just takes me time to determinate dimensions. A remake the shell and the two stuff for listening and talking.

How did you force the heated up tube into your wooden form? I would think to do so the wood block would have to be tapered?
Was the tube sliced and then wrapped around the form? Does the PVC turn grey once heated?
As always impressed with your progress and delighted to see your updates.

No cone on the wood, the tube is just forced around the shape (use gloves, it a bit hot). if you don't heat too much, PVC stay on the same tint. You can reheat many times (3 times on this last piece).
The wood is extract with hammer.

So you started out with grey PVC. In looking at the picture of the tube in the oven I thought it was white. I really can't wait to try this. A set of BC 611s would be awesome props to have. Obviously wiring them with GMRS modern radio internals would be the way to go.

This is the same between in the oven and shaped. Just the light of pic.

Even though you acquired a real one did you ever finish up this project? I thought it was coming along nicely and looked quite good. Still not clear how you got the tube of PVC around the squared block of wood? Did you slice it,then heat it, then form it around the wood? Perhaps as you indicated once warmed up its soft enough to just squeaze over the wood but that seems unlikely to me?
Once home I would really like to make a pair of them.

I don't think I will finish it but I can help for your realisation.
The wood block is slided in the hot tube. Be carreful to not fold the tube. Then you reheat and press every faces at the same time, this is the difficult part for having a good flat shape
