That's very cool! The leggings once they arrive will add a lot to the overall look. What weapons would be appropriate for a Brazilian Soldier at the time?

We had our own type of leggings, but as soon as they arrived in Italy, they got changed for the US one. In Brazil we used the M1908 Mauser, but in Italy there were used M1903A3's, M1918 BAR's, M1A1's, M3's, M1 Carbines for officers, M1911 pistols for NCO's and officers, M1917 revolvers, M1 Bazooka, M1919 MG's and some kinds of mortars.

So where and how were Brazilian troops organized and deployed in WW2? What campaigns and actions did they participate in. I am hesitant to admit that I knew nothing of and South or Central American countries Axis or Allied membership. I guess I always assumed they were neutral?

I believe they saw combat in Italy, possibly around Monte Cassino.

The Italian Campaign was certainly the most International theater as Polish Forces, fought there as did exotic elements from both the French and British colonies and apparently Brazilian troops and of course both British, American, German troops. no doubt others as well? An interesting side note. The American 442nd which was composed of Japanese Americans also fought extensively there as well. Several of my wifes uncles served in the 442nd and her uncle Tets had a funny story he liked to tell. During the Italian fighting his unit captured a large group of German soldiers who were perplexed by the Japanese soldiers. One German soldier who spoke excellent English asked Tets if he was Japanese. When he responded affirmatively the soldier said: " But I thought the Japanese were our allies?" Tets replied " Yeah bub, we used to be but we switched sides, didn't they tell you?". The German then shared what Tets said to the other Germans and they looked decidedly distraught and discouraged. He always laughed when he told that story.

I think it was Bill Mauldin who had a story in his biography about being in Naples on R&R. He and some buddies, who'd been drinking, were walking down a street when a group of Nisei soldiers come around the corner. One of his buddies said "We've lost the war! The Japs have captured Naples!"
Canadians and Indians served in Italy. The French brought in Moroccan tribesmen, called Goumiers, who excelled at fighting in the Italian mountains, as well as terrorizing pretty much everyone.

Nice stories mates, as Brasil is a multicultural country we had several different ethinic group in our army, such as Japanese, German and Italians. Racial segregation wasn' t in our beloved army vocabulary. And don't think I forgot about the Brasil in WW2 post, it will be posted later ( today). Thanks André M.

Thanks for sharing. I had known that Brazil had fought in WWII, but I had not known the extent of their contributions to the Allied cause. It was also very interesting that the war changed the meaning of the idiom "the snake will smoke."

My full impression by now ( still wip) With the shirt tucked inside the pants, a very common way to wear both B-1 and B-2 uniforms. Thanks André M.

Hello gentlemen, I just bought a few pieces of gear, as soon as they arrive, I will post a 90% full and acurate impression of a Brazilian soldier in Italy, only missing the correct canteen cover that I already managed to find(a bit too expensive at the moment) and weapons, along with small pieces of the kit. Thanks
