I have a few sets of the First offering you shared and found the materials in the webbing to be a light grey NYLON material. I dyed mine black using a spray paint designed for plastics and they have held their color quite well. Though far from ideal they work fine for MY purposes. Over a smock with addition load bearing items and caked in dirt they enhance the fleeting at a glance through the forest realization that the person you have spotted is a German. For close up encampment interaction they are probably unacceptable for most. The leather ones probably show more promise but nothing you could do to them would appease the stitch Nazis.
Thanks for sharing. For those of us tasked with clothing a dozen folks plus these costume quality items are absolutely worth knowing about.

If I were to start from scratch these leather border guard suspenders would be my choice with some details added for additional authenticity.
