Hello everyone! After searching the Internet and this forum for some days i finally took the step and registered myself because i couldnt get a satisfying answer. Im looking for a new rifle. Actually im deciding between 3 models; The PPS 98K, the G&G G980 and the GM1903 A3. The Tanaka is not available here. I know the benefit of the PPS which has a NPASish system built in, and that the wood looks certainly better than the G980s, but i heared that the metal is pretty soft on the PPS and on the G980 it is zinc? I also know that the M1903 uses lots of zinc, and i also read about the weak internals that the G980 had, but are aparantly improved. Looks are actually not as important as functionality and reliablity. Between those 3 rifles, which has the best build quality and reliabilty? Note that the PPS and both G&Gs are priced the same here, all arround 550.- CHF.-( or 480 Euros). Kit is not the question, as im going to build my new rig arround the rifle. Thanks for the help Yours sincerly Hildebrand

I didn't see the PPS close, but G&G is looking very well and shoots amazing if properly tuned. Despite similarities, being a gas gun, parts will worn out and will need replacements. I noticed that the magazines for PPS are more expensive than those for G&G, especially the CO2. So, if you are considering running on CO2, G&G might prove cheaper in the end. Still you might find the PPS cheaper in some EU online shops. Overall - I think the quality control is better for G&G, the same as support and parts availability.

Yeah thats a good point, seems like the PPS gets dropped out. I have a 2 year shop warranty. But as i looked up, you can buy G&G spares, where i havent found PPS ones... Now its the question; G980 or M1903 quality and reliabilty wise... FPS rules are here all the same. FA till 360 FPS, Semi till 450 FPS and Snipers till 550 FPS.
So the NPASish isnt really a point.

I think it really matters what impression you want to do. I don't think there is any significant difference in reliability between these 2. Speaking about G980 - I think you will be good with CO2 magazines - should hive you something around 160 - 165 m/s, first 2 shots maybe a little hotter. What I have found mentioned as an issue is the CO2 bulb getting stuck in the magazine. It never happened to me - but I need to check the producer of the cartridges as this might be the difference. Gas magazines are 2 powers - low power - around 125 m/s and high power - around 140m/s. Problem is that not many sites are actually marketing these separately. I ordered 3 gas magazines and got 2 high power and one low power. Also initially (4-5 years ago) the G980 came with a pot metal striker. This was replaced with a steel one for free by G&G if you proved yours came with wrong part. New builds will have the steel part included. And - if you are opting for German impression - you can also get the AGM MP44 AEG - which is an excellent replica (I bought the Erma re-branded version 4 years ago and both I own are excellent).

Nice to know they went with a steel striker as that was a common complaint. I do think it's a good idea for a German Infantry player to have both a Kar 98 of some kind AND an AEG (typically either an MP40 or STG 44. ). in that way there is flexibility for scenarios, time periods and the ability to create more parity in games. love games where there are lots of bolties.

I think im going for a G980, as the zinc reciever totally turned me off... to see how bad the material choice from G&G actually was on the M1903 really makes me sad...
I knew that the impression question will come, but thats not really the question, as i have a full impression of the US Tanker and a German Tanker for our military displays. I was really just looking for the most solid out of the two. But thanks everyone!
What still is wondering me; is the G980 Reciever also made out of zinc?

To be sincere I don't know. But this is airsoft and one of the limitation in building these is to be impossible to be transformed in something else, more powerful. So Pot metal is actually more frequent than anything else for a reason

Virtually all airsoft replicas are produced in a zinc alloy (pot metal) due to cost and as mentioned to insure their inability to function as actual firearms. Apart from dropping them on a hard surface and provided the components aren't parts that have to endure motion and impacts (charging handles and bolts in blow back parts). This is rarely an issue. I suspect all your Kar 98 receiver group choices from any of the brands will be pock metal.

Ironically the AGM Sten is almost all steel. It's very rugged and heavy. The irony is the the RS Sten is so shoddy (but effective). The infamous $10 plumbers special.
