I just watched a pretty interesting YouTube video featuring exploding BBs. They tested them indoors with a variety of airsoft weapons GBB pistols, shotguns and an AEG. If I had to guess I'd say they contain the flash powder from the simple throw poppers we are all familiar with. They generate a small flash and snap when they hit something solid. They did not activate on the volunteer who allowed himself to be shot multiple times even though he was quite close and only wearing a T Shirt. (ouch!)
The BbS are unbalanced and not perfectly round. I suspect they would tend to jam and they have abysmal flight characteristics. Mostly a novelty item but might be nice for film work effects as they simulate impact sparks quite nicely😬

Well, not sure what to say about this. I am afraid that this might attrack unwanted attention. Let's think about what makes our sport considered harmless - we have low weight, low energy, inert small projectile. If we add explosive to this description - our authority will jump up 1000 Km. BTW - fire crackers are limited in Romania - they can't be bought except on NY eve. So - let's hope this stays on youtube only.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the clip. My prediction is they will remain obscure and not find common use age in our hobby.

Not only that, I'm pretty sure that would violate the Geneva Conventions! (lol)

Use them in mine/traps, But cost will be way high.

The typical spring activated or gas activated mines and boobytraps (thankfully) don't hurl BBs very far (typically 15 to 20 feet) or very hard so I doubt there would be sufficient power to cause these to snap especially with contact on the ground or in contact with a body. I tried projecting a dozen of those finger snaps along with a bunch of BBs in hopes they would activate and unfortunately they did not.
An interesting novelty item that might be cool for indoor games where hard floors and solid walls are everywhere.
