Holy Crap!! I don't think you'd get away with doing something like that in California.

I danced around this originally because I was afraid of being racially insensitive.
But the west just isn’t the west without Indians.
I think I would just make up a fictitious tribe.
Any ideas on a name?

In this age of hypersensitivity, I'm afraid to even try to come up with a name that wouldn't upset someone.

The Hakowa Indians. Remember that from the old TV Show F Troop? In one episode one of the braves asked the chief how they got their name. Hmmmmm? " Me thinks medicine man only one who knows. "
The medicine man says: "Many cycles of spring ago our people were driven from their land by a fierce tribe of Shoshone warriors. They drove us from our lodges and we fled in the darkness. We wandered for many moons. over hills, cross streams and through many valleys. One night we tumb!ed down a steep ravine and our chief declared (Where the heck are we.) That is what we have called ourselves since that day.

The football coach at my high school used to take groups to Yosemite every summer. I remember him telling us that joke around 1966 or so.

That sounds about right 1966. Imagine that, still remember a corny gag like that 53 years later!
