Inspired by 2nd Bat's comment on the 1903 springfield

The M1903A1 with the shorter upper handguard and ladder site together with the straight butt stock and especially the finger grooves is the ICONIC Springfield in my opinion. This looks great and inspires me to copy your efforts. Do you think there is adequate thickness in the stock to create the finger grooves?

I love the finger grooves and need to give that a look. When I midified the ST Kar 98 to a real wood stock the sidewall was cardboard thin but the KAR98 internals are totally different. I am on the road till Friday night but will take a look this weekend.

I cant see in those last pictures if you were able to create the finger grooves. Is the first picture in the thread your S&T or an actual M1903 A1? If so it looks fabulous. After your power upgrade how much harder is it to cock? What all did your upgrade require? What did it cost and where did you get the parts from?

So shy of $200.00 in upgrade parts and substantially better shooting rifle. My S&T Mausers shoots wonderfully without upgrades but mt M1903 was one of the very first ones and could use a little more ooomph. I am definitely going to fit it with the A1 style hand guard and rear site and will add the finger grooves which it obviously has room for. As such I have a replica that can satisfy nearly 80 years of historical time frames.

m.imgur.com/a/H6KF7ZDThis was a particularly useful reference. Since you shouldn’t have to worry about itar restrictions like me, it might be easier to buy a real Springfield wood rifle stock instead of messing with the S&t plastic wood finish. The a1 handguard also took a fair bit of material removal to fit on. As for my Springfield, I didn’t shorten the receiver to the right length and some bit of feeding issues occurred. This was fixed by supergluing a foreign cent coin on the magazine
