Well, a well armed later war German Gruppe would have the following, One machine gun crew by a two man team, one MP44, one MP40, a self-loading rifle(G-43, K-43), Kar98 greade launcher and the rest would be Kar98s, they would also have a reasonable amount of greandes. I dont think gruppes would have more than one machinegun, there wouldn't be two MG42s in one gruppe. What happend was if your gruppe lost their machine gun the would be put in a gruppe that still had one but lost some rifle men.
Gruppenfurher, MP40 A. Gruppenfurher, MP44 Machinegunner, MG42 and pistol A.Machinegunner, Kar98 Rifle man, Greande launcher for Kar98 and Kar98 Rifle man, G43 Rifle man, Kar98 Rifle man, Kar98 Rifle man, Kar98
The Rifle man's job is to protect the MG from any attacks be it headon, flank etc....

The weapon composition of a late war Gruppe varied radically. I think it would be almost impossible to say what was common or not. By far the most common weapon would still be the 98K. I'm not challenging or disagreeing with your post at all, I just don't want people to think that there was a higher percentage of fully automatic weapons in the late war period per se. If anything you'd also see Gewehr98s, Mosins and other 2nd class weapons making a big showing as German'y supply problems worsened.

It also depends on supply, what unit, what branch. Later in the war you see FJs with more auto/semi auto weapons and a lack of Kar98s.
