Ok good people looking through these threads from time to time i see that there is a lot of pictures that have loads of great props in the back ground ( pak 37, flak guns etc etc ) I'm looking for ideas myself I'm looking for pictures of what you are using as props, I'm impressed with some things that I've seen on here so i think its a great chance for some people to show off some of there handy work and what they have on there skirmish site so lets see what you guys have to show thanks guys *mods i was not sure where to start this thread, "Scenario" seems like a good place ?, please feel free to move it*

I posted pictures of a number of my larger posts in the Other topic section regarding Huge Games attended. I show the tracked vehicles we've used. The explosion simulators, mortars and of course jeeps, MGs and the Pak AT gun.

Id like to know if making a Flak 88 prop out of pvc pipe would work? Its just that the stand for it would be difficult.

Yes I am going to try and make a Flak 88 for the next event, I want to put a air cannon in it and just shoot socks out or a combustion potato cannon and shoot nothing out just use the bang for effect. If someone can help me find pics of the cannon or some dimensions for it that be great! Thanks all!

If you see the connector that huge arm in the pic I need help on how to make it out of a material that can hold pvc. Also the huge rotator that connects the gun to the stand is a difficult Item to make. Also if anyone knows how to make another firing method, really anyway to make a loud legal bang. Thanks all help appreciated. Schutze

You might want to get a scale model of a flak 88 and scale it up from there.

Get a scale model flak 88 you mean a real one or build it first?

Buy a 1:35 scale model of a flak 88 and use that to make your full size one. You'll have all the pieces and you can use the 1:35 pieces to get the correct dimensiond for the 1:1 pieces. All you need to do is measure the 1:35 piece and multiply the measurment by 35. That will give you the 1:1 scale, or real life size.

Just a side note...I am starting on some German hedgehogs (beach obsticles). I'll post some pics when they are done. I did a traffic barricade too. I'll post those as soon as the digital charges back up.

Could try making the stand out of wood, but not sure. What about transportation of the actual unit? Would it be collapsible? As far as firing mechanism, your idea sounds ok. Let me know if I can help out.

Yes it will be portable collapsible not sure, but Id like to know about which Idea sounds best, air cannon, combustable cannon, firecracker in a reusable replica ejectable shell, or other. This is main problem Im having so far. Thanks for help nick.

It would be hilarious if it shot actual airsoft BBs (buck shot style). Just joking. I think that if it actually fired a safe projectile though, then it would be really neat. It's just a very complicated design. I guess in the case of the actual projectile, that the air cannon would be the only option.

A couple of thoughts. First a German 88 is huge!!! I'd recommend something less ambitious in dimension like a PAK 37 or perhaps a Pak 40. By the time you build to scale any major field piece you will have to consider both storage and transport. Once that's handled a great method for firing is to build seperate loadable shells that slide into the breech, are discharged and then withdrawn for the next round. These shells can be made using a CO2 adapter, Ball valve (1/2 inch or 3/4 inch depending on how powerful you want it) small expansion chamber (again sized according to how powerful you want it.) Then plumbed into a 2" PVC pipe section (about a foot long.) This round can be loaded with TALC powder held in by a sliced disc of foam cut out of a slice of those 2" wide six feet long swimming pool snakes. (Obviously not the kind thats hollow in the middle) I usually pre make these round filler with a disc closest to the expansion chamber as well as to the front of the Talc powder cake. That hold it all together very nicely and creates a more impressive effect when fired. If you'd like you can also put in several hundred BBs (not recommended if you're doing direct fire!!!!!! Another option is to stuff a 2" Nerf rocket into the tube section. (like you see in the pictures) This rocket will be tucked inside the tube and just about reach to the front of your foot long shell. You fire it all by turning the ball valve, releasing a CO2 cartridge full of expanding gas. If you have no barrel to the front of the shell the round, BBs or TALC will simply spread and won't go very far. If on the other hand you have a inner barrel inside your fake gun barrel, that the "shell" links tightly into. (say 3 or four feet long) The BBs or Nerf rocket will absolutely SAIL out of the gun. It will fly well in excess of 130 yards. If you don't wish to fire anything, the TALC will provide an awesome discharge of "smoke" To link the round into the inner barrel I attach a 2" coupler section that has been channeled in such a way that the shell (with two hang over screws at the tip of the shell along the edge) slide into place and can be twisted so the shells are held in snug. You then throw the ball valve with a flick of the wrist. Use a lanyard if you like, for the added realism. Following the discharge, the gunner can twist and pull out the shell and load the next round. In this way there is no pyro or fire danger or explosion danger over and above the controlled pressure of the CO2 cartridge. Be sure your plumbing sections and components used are all high pressure rated and the device should hold up just fine for hundreds and hundreds of discharges. Here are some pictures of the concept as applied to a mock 57mm recoiless rifle. In the case of the recoiless rifle the gunner aims the device while his assistant loads the round signals that he is loaded by taping the gunner on the helmet. The gunner then yellas fire and the assitant throws the ball valve releasing the pressure and hence the rocket of hundreds of Bbs or simply the cake of TALC powder. In the case of the gun you see the inner barrel is only about 2 feet long and the Nerf round goes 130 yards. If you have a artcularly long barrel like the 88 you'll have to place the inner barrel along the top of the tube since there will be a small amount of drop for the round as it leaves the inner barrel. I hope as you read this description and look at the pictures it all makes sense. My son sells these recoiless rifles for $190.00. Spare rounds cost 58.00 each. We usually equip a gun crew with three rounds. Each round can of course be reused over and over again. Discharge costs are one CO2 cartridge, a small amount of TALC and probably a NERF rocket as you seldom find them afterwards! We use them to knock out bunkers or vehicles in our games. You can build these yourself for about half what my son sells them for. Materials alone. The one shown is the first one he made. He's built about 10 of them and has made some great improvements in the design visually but unfortunately he has the pictures of the cooler versions. Incidently he mounts a Golf monocular scope, range finder in the site which makes for a cool effect. They cost about $10.00 and are a nice touch and would be appropriate for a direct fire gun as well.

2nd bat. once again THANK YOU. all that info really just helped my bazooka concept. if you could post or pm some of the dimensions for that i could see if they fit the general build of a bazooka (i know that the recoiless rifle and bazooka aren't the same) but if theres a version without some of the cosmetic additions that i could for use as a bazooka then it would help greatly. Once again you prove to be god.

Well Im not sure if BBs would hit accurately so Im trying to go for the big bang set up just to get the allies attention and attract them to the spot. Unless somehow we can divide tommygunners property into quadrants and map it. Then have german positions equiped with field phones to give us target spot. This be easier if I can use a combustion potato gun to shoot foam rockets or bbs. Oh well Im gonna build it but I just need some way to fire it.

I have an effective way to make quick and easy to assemble and transport artillery guns.
First you need two pieces of two by four wood about 7 feet in length, then you get two pallets and a length of large PVC pipe, paint it German grey, take to two palates and set them next to eachother proping them up with the wood, then put the pipe in between them and last but not least put some netting or tarp over the entire thing so just the barrel shows and the shape of artillerygun is seen beneath the tarp.
It may not sem sofistocated but on the field where there used as props they really help, especially since you can make so many of them for next to nothing.
The guys who were at the events can vouch for that.

Tommy, the reason Im buildin this is because I want it to play somewhat of a roll in the game. Cause you figure that if your being fired at youll want to reach it in order to stop the fire. Unlike those tubes sitting there doing nothing (no offense), last time we didnt even reach the guns cause they posed no threat so thats what Im changin. Also are combustion potato launchers able to be used ? Or does that go under pyrotechnics. Just to shoot Nerf Balls er pellets er somethin?

I now fully understand the need for artillery that actually fires. You make a great point Schutze! The only thing is that the Flak 88 is so huge. Plus there are so many trees around. What if we launched projectiles (like small lunchbags filled with flower) or something. If they would hold up and go some distance, then they could actually pose a threat to the allies. I think that a nerf rocket would only work for the bazooka idea, because one can aim it directly at the target as opposed to bombarding the enemy from above.

I like that a tightly packed bag or package even a shell filled with powder. Also I wanted to know would a gun that just shoots almost you can call it, blank rounds? Like just fill it with flower and make it make a loud bang. How bout a combustion one? Thanks for your support.

If you don't win the scenario unless you blow the guns it doesn't matter if they shoot or not they are the objective. I encourage you to make working arty though it adds interesting atmosphere good luck.

An idea my friend and I utilized once was using spring and PVC piping. You cut a slit into the pipe, and run a cocking mechanism in the piping, that pulls down and holds the spring into a taught position. You then load your round, and let the cocking handel out of the locked position (the original slit was in an L shape, so the cocking handel locked into the horizontal portion of the slit) and the spring is released, causing the round to fly out of the pipe.

See the red circle? Thats the only part I cant find or figure how to make. Also I need a way to fire and load from the back as the barrel will be way way way to high for me to reach and stick anything down. All Ideas welcome, thanks a bunch!! Schutze

Dude an 88 is huge. Like John said, I'd stick to something smaller, like a PAK gun or a 37MM. A PVC 88 just doesn't seem feasible for multiple reasons.
