Well, at Sicily, and Anzio, the landings were directed at a town that was fortified, rather than that of Normandy where the towns were inland, and there was the Pillboxes and obsticals on the beach. The Italy landings, like i said had obstacles on the beach, but were held by fortified houses. Also the beach landings, like said before were only one day, and were not made by any units we have in the midwest, save us 101 boys who landed behind Utah Beach in Normandy. Yes it would be cost effective, but like i said, One day fighting use, and Units would have to be redesiganted in order to keep historical accuracy. Im thinkink our best bet would be a town, a Permit could be obtained im sure easily since there will be no plumbing, or electricity. Then a simple frame of 2x4s and 2x8s would make up the structure, and plywood painted up to look like a french building would make it. These sturctures would maybe have crude rooms too, and i would plan on them being atleast 2 stories, maybe even 3 if we can make it, that would be 4 if you count the attic im not sure if that could make it, but i know we can do 2 story w/ a 3floor attic, like most European buildings were ( they all had a relatively simple design, it would vary between france italy and germany), but we could still use this town for any one of those countries. -Cary

We have an airsoft field down here in TN with buildings and brick walls. That would be pretty fun.

Ok, i got one of the buildings somewhat drawn up. It still needs dimensions, and details. This is going to be one of the main buildings the town is modeled after ( i know lame since is from BoB, but i just love the look of that town ) -Cary

I hate to say this but it will be really freaking hard to make belivable buildings, even if they are hollow shells (insides would be great if there were walls) first off there is the cash problem your looking at several hundred dollars of building material, then theres time it will take a long time to build these things, also theres that lack of property (Im working on a perminent field though). All in all this is a huge project that I think invloves way more than we are capable of at this time Im also assuming that these buildings wont be full scale but even so.
Not tyring to bash the idea or anything I reall like it but its gonna be tons of work.

Im a guy who doesnt take... you cant do it. I will try, time is no problem, im pretty fast with build w/ wood. Also, to make them look believable isnt hard either, since Normand buildings were brik covered in a mortar. Also, you can get 2x4s pretty ceap if they are not perfect. So thats a plus too. I know people too who have offered to donate wood, and that would just be the thing, is ask for donations to do it. I know we have to find land, though i know of 55 acres in wisconsin, and 8 acres i believe that jeff has.... something has got to be done though, because forrest battles, thought fun, are pretty darn farb from a historical standpoint. These buildings would also go twice as fast as any standard house and be twice as cheap, since we are not puttin plumbing, electrical, basements, or insulation. Plus we can do all the work by ourselves, so there is no labor expensis. -Cary

The thing is though, that with a beach, you would have to rent the land, and as Capt Zak stated in other threads projectiles are not allowed on public property. There is a chance we could get one, but I would have to say, it would be a HASSLE!! I will look into both though, and get cost estimates. Though i am entirely ready to spend money on building a town. Plus, a beach would end up being a little of beach fighting, then... more woods. PLus we have not one unit that landed on any normandy beach... and only one unit that would ahve landed at Anzio. I have to say... a beach landing would exclude people unless we re designated units.

Im what they call a gismologist, so Ill give ya help anytime you need it Cap on anything, also we may be able to have two fields, turns out there is a personal frined of the family who has a very close cousin that loves WW2 (not a reenactore but history buff that wants to reenact) they have a huge piece of farm property in Galesburg that has prarie, woods, and open land that a town can be built on, plus creeks and alot of hills too. Ill be talking to him very shortly about having games there.

Ok for making hedgerows, youll need the following:
1.) A bunch of branches, bushes, anything you can pile to make hedgerows...
2.) Trimmers, branch cutters and Water
3.) A bunch of sweat shop workers because theres no way in hell your going to find anyone to build Hedgerows...besides the french. (youll also need a whip, for the workers to stay motivated).
Good luck!

Anybody know how to build Hedgerows? That would be awesome! BTW, TG, that's excellent news! Hedgerows were dirt walls with think brush on top. So three feet of lower wall (dirt, rocks etc) then brush on top of that making them anywhere 4 to 7 feet tall. They were tall enough to hide a full grown person very well.

yes, and many times there were known to have a drainage ditch in the middle. I was also reading a book on the paratroopers and guys were talking about how these hedgerows were basicaly natural bunkers. though the krauts weould make them even better.. some times burrowing into and under them and making barracks that could hold a platoon of krauts + -Cary

Cary is right, The germans would use them for fortification, they were very strong basically natural bunkers. Jaeger- Not all hedgerows contained a 3ft wall in them. Farmers in France just put old bushes etc in piles to separate farms and property. This would later help the Germans in WW2 at Normandie, but It takes a while for Hedgerows to become strong enough to block a bullet. I like the Idea...for something a little more realistic, would be maybe some craters, from arty shells. I have a great design to make things look bombed out, shelled, old and/or destroyed totally. I used to be on Set Crew for my school that was my place on it...
