Watch closely when they show the long line of Shermans. Many (but not all) of them are fake shells suspended on VW chassis. They loom pretty darn good. The turrets turn and I'd kill to have a couple of them. I learned about it in a special on Hollywood special effects.

You know what else would be cool to track down-
Those inflatable dummy tanks and weapons they used as decoys before D-Day- if you ahve seen pictures of those things- they were pretty good.

yeah its a great film.
I spent many satuday mornings as a pre tenage ww2 fanatic watching that movie, and I even built a huge replica of arnhem in my attic where the battle for the bridge was fought over and over and over....
ahh to be 10 again,
now I assume the kids just fire up Call of duty's arnhem map. -Gordak

Incidently the German uniforms were sold for years afterwards and are even identified as "Bridge Too Far" uniforms. They are significantly flawed of course and the anal amongst us cry with indignation over how "bad" they are. Generally speaking the vehicles and details in this film were pretty good and it was one of the first films to make a legitimate effort to do so.

they don't make those kind of movies anymore, i wish i was billionaire(for many reasons) but mostly so i could sponsor a big movie and make a remake of the longest day.
stay completely true to the original, but with modern effects etc.
so you have the almost documentary over look of the hole day. but the battle scenes would like like BOB but in a bigger scale.
i would do this for 2 reasons. 1. it would be really cool. 2. it's the only way to get the younger generation to see the film, as they would never see B&W movie..
the biggest problem would be to find actor that could fill the shoes. of John Wayne, Henry Fonda etc..

Hmm, I would, for once, love a movie that followed the events VERY precicely. I could care less if it made money, as long as I could say "Hey, this is the most accurate movie out there"
I highly recommend reading "The Longest Day" the book that made the movie.

I saw this movie when I was a kid and my favorite scene is where Robert Redford is crossing the river under heavy fire and the way he's praying "Hail Mary full of grace!" over and over
