Has anybody else seen this? It is a mini series that comes on th History Channel every so often and you can buy the DVD's for like 80 bucks! There is like 5 cd's because it is so long. It's about the 101st airborne paratroopers (or something like that.)
It is an awesome movie. I don't have the package (I wouldn't suggest you buy them it's so expensive though) but do check every so often on the history channel and you might see a few episodes.

Great movie or miniseries or whatever it is. Just great. I went back to read the book and the fact that they did it in such a long format gave them the liberty to make it truly comparable to the book. Most movies don't come close to their inpiriational books.
Upside: because of this and SPR interest in WWII reenacting and airsoft has gone up
Downside: because of BOB and SPR a lot of new reenactors want to be an 101st airborne easy company with a Thompson SMG

I heard they are making another Band of Brothers series- (by the creators of BoB, another miniseries) only this time it's in the Pacific war. I forgot what it was called. I think it was just called "War in the Pacific."

The best I could do was Wal Mart for $80 so I took it. But I think it's worth it. I've watched it everyday since I bought it.

I think they needed to incorporate a few things in order to save time and so as not to confuse the audience too much. Like that scene where Malarkey is talking to the German soldier from Eugene, Oregon. That actually happened, but it was another soldier in another unit, not Malarkey. They felt that it was a very interesting story that had to be dramatized somehow.

The special edition usually goes for 70-80 bucks at Best Buy, but just wait for a sale.
Anywho, I really like the series. There are a lot of memorable moments in it. Having read the actual book, I wish they could included more of the Easy's story. But what can you do when you're on a budget? Oh well...

Now they just need to make a mini-series on a Heer unit and us Germans wouldn't always be out numbered! Yeah right....they would never make a mini series on the Germans (public would accuse them of being politically incorrect). Yes...many new reenactors want to do rangers or 101st....and many reenactors critisize this. My opinion is the more people interested in WWII the better. So what if they got into it because of SPR and BoB? I think it's great...as long as they don't believe they are history books

Especially those that take SPR as a "probable and realistic" movie. I know of people who actually thought that the love story in the movie Titanic was based on a true story, the blue saphire and all that Hollywood extra stuff.

hey' guy's band of brothers is basically about the 101st airborne paratroopers. im sure that you all know that by now" ;D. yes of cores Hollywood will try like always to put it's spin' into something as great as this . but Tom Hank's was in charge it was his baby and he is a big WW II buff' . and a stickler for detail and the truth''. so what you saw is pretty much what and the way it happened" to the guy's in this group" as he did interviews with the surviving member's of 101st airborne Dick Winters included who still lives in P.A or did until 2003 and has bin present at some reenactment's done by people in the past. the one thing to remember with WW II is none of us were there so you have to go with the sources books are great buy will only tell you so much. in my case my source would be my two" grand-fathers and great-grand father . who have bin gone for some time now but they and some of their buddy's were my source. as for Tom Hank's sources that would be Dick Winters and the other surviving member's of 101st airborne so don't dismiss thing's you see in the film as just Hollywood Bull %^&* . i say this from my own experience's there are a lot of thing's that can happen in a military OP' that don't make it into stars & strips or the book's. so go to the source' ask about what your grand-father or great grand-father did'. go to you local VFW talk to some of these guy's who are still around just show them some respect and talk to them as a person'' you mite be surprised at what you could learn. just some thing that i learned a long time ago' and thought id Cher' Jericho D. so what you saw is pretty much what and the way it happened" to the guy's in this group" as he did interviews with the surviving member's of 101st airborne Dick Winters included who still lives in P.A or did until 2003 and has bin present at some reenactment's done by people in the past. A lot of things actually didn't happen the way it was portrayed in the series. I recommend the books The Biggest Brother and Beyond Band of Brothers: www.amazon.com/gp/product/0451215109/sr=8-1/qid=1144424098/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-7639267-2809447?%5Fencoding=UTF8www.amazon.com/gp/product/0425208133/sr=8-2/qid=1144424098/ref=pd_bbs_2/103-7639267-2809447?%5Fencoding=UTF8Dick Winters actually fought with Tom Hanks to keep a lot of things true to history but for the sake of artistic license and screenplay storytelling they were made different from actual events. Dick Winters even threatened to "shun" Tom Hanks (an Amish practice in the Lancaster, PA area). One example: If you read the book Parachute Infantry by David Webster, he was not even in the "Last Patrol" in Hageneau. It was purely a screenplay/script thing. While the patrol did happen, Webster was just a covering fire gunner left on the Allied side of the river. He was not part of the patrol. There were other things that were softened up in the series for public consumption. Guarnere actually killed German prisoners in Normandy. Rather than showing that, they just showed him disobeying orders and opening fire without being told, and they showed him not ceasing fire with his tommy gun. In reality, like Winter he didn't have a rifle or SMG himself except for a pistol. Stuff like that.

There's an article in this month's issue of WWII History magazine written by Major Dick Winters about the combat action that was dramatized in the "Crossroads" episode. He gets into more detail and since it's written by Major Winters himself, I'm pretty sure there's no BS.

Also, Blithe did in fact NOT die in WW2. He recovered fully and lived to see the war's end. He died in 1968 I think.

I recommend reading Band Of Brothers, Yes the movie is fantastic *I only own 2 copies* but alot of it is wrong. Just as an FYI as well, while they did do cast interviews, in an attempt to get it mostly correct, they used the book as a guide. Stefen Ambrose was the one who did the majority of the research.
If you want to know more about E company 506, 101st then grab the book. I myself have a particular interest in that unit since my Grandpa served with them, while he was a stationed at regimental HQ, he was still part of the unit. He died before I was born, which sucks, but I've been reading a box of letters home my grandmother and mom have saved. His patch, compass, and a few awards and knickknacks are now mine, and I keep them in my safty deposit box.
Anyhow...I do encourage you guys to read Band of Brothers, as its MUCH better than the movie *besides in the movie you don't REALLY get a feel for the amount of training, or the hatered level of Capt. Sobel that you do in the book*.

I wonder how Capt. Sobel's family reacted to how he was portrayed in the book and movie? I hear he tried to commit suicide in the 50s sometime.
