Audie Murphy (the most decorated soldier in WW2) stars as himself in this movie based on his bestselling book. We see him growing up, joining the Army, getting sent to Europe and killing many Germans while saving many lives along the way. The movie is in COLOR and features some great combat scenes. Murphy charges a hill at one point that is filled with German machine gun nests. He sprays one gun crew with his Thompson, jumps in and grabs their MG42, climbs out and continues to eliminate several more soldiers while firing the MG42 from a standing position. Impressive for a little guy! Eat your heart out John Rambo. The movie is fairly epic and is an excellent source for American uniforms/gear as it was made using WW2 veterans with full cooperation of the Department Of The Army. It's now on DVD and worth checking out!

Oh man I love this movie! I watched this with my grandpa and loved it. I can't believe when he was on the burning tank with the MG that he survived that! I think the best part is that he stars as himself.

Pretty cool movie, but I wonder why Murphy uses a Thompson in it....as in real life he used an M1 Carbine. Maybe Hollywood loves Tommy guns that much.

its a good movie but the book is even better. In the book, he says that he switched weapons often, also he got shot in the leg twice and the shots were not what retired him from the military. There was a lot in the movie that was totally different in the book....

I think in the book it talks about him carrying a .30 cal or MG42 if forget but he did use the thompson quite a few times in the book.
