This 1969 Italian film features Klaus Kinski as a Nazi commander determined to keep the top secret plans called "Operation Plan K" from the hands of the Americans. Gianni Garko is Lt. Glenn Hoffmann, an American Officer in charge of leading a suicide mission to steal the secret plans from a German fortress. The team he throws together is nutty and loose, with each member bringing a special skill to the table. This movie reminded me a lot of Kelly's Heroes (1970) as it uses World War 2 as the setting to pull off a major robbery. I was impressed with Five For Hell as the last 15 minutes feature one of the most insane shootouts I've ever seen in a war film. It's almost a Wild Bunch style slaughter as the five Americans take on over a hundred German soldiers. I think Five For Hell would find an audience rather quickly. And seeing the great Klaus Kinski as a snarling German Officer was worth the price of admission alone.

A "Nazi" is a member of the "Nazi Party", wich was a political party in post WW1 Germany.

Actually, that "Nazi commander " part was straight off the back of the dvd cover. Here's the place I found this movie at as it's a rare import film. This site also carries some other wild stuff you cannot buy or rent in the US....And they take Paypal and ship FAST. www.lfvw.com/five_for_hell.html

You had to be part of the Nazi party to be SS I think... It depends on the year. If were talking about 1942 and up then no... Keep in mind how the image of the SS changed threw the war.

I just can not believe the makers of the movie called him a nazi... It just shows the ignorance of the general public in regards to WW2.
I may buy a copy, does it have subtitles?

It's in English. It was financed by Italians (like the old Clint Eastwood westerns) but directed toward the international market. Keep in mind, it's a wild movie with the focus on action, not authenticity. And to the general public....A German soldier fighting against us in World War 2 was considered a Nazi.

If you read the website link it says English language right on the case. I've watched it twice now and it's in English....With the exception of some German language yelling and such. I also recommend the "Nazi 3 pack" that the same site sells. It's on the main page as you scroll down. Three movies for 20 bucks. Granted, they are Italian Nazi exploitation crap, but still good for some laughs....Except for Holocaust 2. That movie was terrible. A holocaust survivor "revenge" movie that's 90 minutes with NOTHING happening. Woman's Camp 119 is twisted but laughable and Achtung Desert Tigers is funny. Hilarious battle scenes. www.lfvw.com/achtung.htmwww.lfvw.com/womans_camp119.htmwww.lfvw.com/holocaust_2.htm

Following Doom's usually good advice I bought all three movies. Five for Hell is great!! Lots of great action scenes. I loved the part where Kubelwagens are chasing motorcycles. The ultra 60's music was pretty funny. And sometimes I just had to shake my head and wonder "What where they thinking?" Such as when one of the five is tap dancing to the theme song, or when they somersault through a window and use a captain Kirk neck chop on an unsuspecting Nazi henchman. Overall though... Great!!
Haven't had a chance to watch the others yet.

schmitty....Just remember that Five For Hell was the one I liked (and that dancing scene IS a riot). The others are exploitation garbage....AKA "I take no responsibility if you bought Holocaust 2..." *gasp* terrible film.....Coma inducing Italian trash. Achtung Desert Tigers has the some of the worst "battles" ever filmed. And if you have kids, don't let them anywhere near Woman's Camp 119 or Achtung. There are some very tasteless, gory, sexual and disturbing scenes in both

the german guy looks a hell of alot like the Major in the movie, "The Bridge at Remagen." Different actors. American actor Robert Vaughn is in Remagden. Klaus Kinski is a German born actor who was kind enough to father the beautiful actress Natasha Kinski.
