Here's the first pic to leak out from the new Tom Cruise film "Valkyrie", directed by Bryan Singer (Usual Suspects, X-Men, Superman Returns). Based on a true story, he plays German Officer Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, the leader of the group who plotted to kill Hitler. A Nazi Scientologist. That's a first.

crazy ass religion or not I enjoy Tom Cruise flicks. Some of them are very entertaining and I don't have to agree with his off stage beliefs to enjoy his movies. I will probally go see this unless someone on here sees it first and tells me it is worse than Windtalkers or something.

Yeah, The list goes on. I don't care what anyone says about tom cruise in PEOPLE magazine, he is a great actor. Anyone see Born on the Fourth of July? All the gear was accurate, the only problem was firing the m14 on full auto, while wounded, without showing any signs of recoil from a 7.62 rifle. Looks funny with the eye patch but I would go and see it.

HISTORY LESSON/MOVIE SUMMARY: The plot to assassinate Hitler on July 20, 1944.....Repelled by Hitler's racist policies and military bungling, Von Stauffenberg tried to blow him up with a suitcase bomb at the field headquarters known as Wolf's Lair, but the blast was partially obstructed and failed to find its target. Hitler sustained only minor wounds. Von Stauffenberg was executed in a purge shortly afterwards. Legendary Field Marshall Erwin Rommel was also implicated in the plot and took his own life before standing trial.

cant say i've seen anything with tom cruise in it that i just couldn't live without. the Mission Impossible series was entertaining i guess.
I dont care what they say in "PEOPLE" magazine either, i just could care less about him as an actor and frankly as a person he has become a big joke. I cant take him seriously which is gunna cut into me believing he is out to assassinate hitler...

Tom Cruise was cool for a long time, then I dunno, the last few years, something happened, his coolness factor took a nosedive. That Tom Cruise 'mystique' is gone and I don't know if he can ever recover it...I'd like to think that it's not because of age, but I'm afraid I have to admit that may be the reason. In this youth obsessed society of ours, premium is given to the youth. Once you hit 40 you are so not cool anymore.

Germany dosn't reconise Scientologi as a religion(only as a money making sceem) and wouldn't let them film the moive in germany if Tom played Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg.
there's the story
In June 2007, prior to production, Germany's Defense Ministry spokesperson Harald Kammerbauer said that filming of Valkyrie would not be allowed to take place on the country's military sites if the protagonist Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg was portrayed by Tom Cruise, a follower of Scientology, considered a masquerade of religion by Germany. Kammerbauer also said that the ministry had not received official filming requests from the film's producers.[13] Later in the month, the ministry reneged its stance and welcomed production of Valkyrie. The previous controversy reportedly stemmed from Antje Blumenthal, a conservative German member of parliament, who claimed that Germany's Defense Minister Franz Josef Jung told her that the film would not be shot due to the "purported danger" of Cruise's Scientology.[19] Despite the reneging, the son of Colonel Stauffenberg, Berthold Maria Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, voiced concerns over Cruise's portrayal of his father, due to the actor's practice of Scientology. Berthold said that he would not oppose the film's production, but hoped that Cruise would drop the role.[20]
Following the initial confusion about whether Valkyrie would be produced in Germany or not, the film found some local support in Germany. German director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck considered Cruise's involvement as an opportunity to promote awareness of the neglected story of Colonel Stauffenberg.[14] Veteran German actor Armin Mueller-Stahl also lent his support to the production.[17]
On July 20, 2007, the 63rd anniversary of the July 20 Plot, several German newspapers sought other reasons to criticize Tom Cruise's portrayal of Stauffenberg. The age difference was cited, with Stauffenberg being 36 at the time of the coup attempt, and Cruise being 45 in his portrayal of the colonel. The Bild also criticized the height difference between the two, with Stauffenberg being 1.85 meters tall and Cruise being under 1.70 meters tall. Cruise has also been attacked by junior politicians. Rudolf Köberle, the state secretary for interior issues in the state of Baden-Württemberg, said, "It sullies [Stauffenberg's] heritage to have a Scientology adherent act him
