EVENT CANCELLED - 07/24/07 - DUE TO LACK OF PARTICIPANTS - ersatzjack2 On August 16th thru August 19th the First (Inaugural) Field of Dreams event will take place. The battlefield is located in Forest County, WI in the Township of Nashville. This is approximately 4 hours north of Milwaukee. The battlefield is 68 acres of land which forms a rough "L" shape around Crawford Lake. It is a mature managed forestry parcel with 568 feet of frontage on Crawford Lake and it has several gravel roads within its perimeters. It is hilly beautiful glacially carved out terrain. Because of the terrain it will play more like 100+ acres. The lake is a private 23 acre parcel with no residents. It is undisturbed and scenic. Thursday, August 16th - arrivals at 3pm with camp set up, position preparation, discussion, and training according to each side's respective commanders. A chrono will test guns and a safety briefing will also be held. All WWII AA rules apply. In addition, only biodegradable pb's will be allowed and any behavior during the event not deemed mature or in keeping with WWIIAA will be dealt with appropriate sanctions by the property owners, i.e. Ersatzjack and Ersatzjack2. Friday, August 17th - battle begins at 6am and continues throughout the day. The battle will be Huertgen Forest, Ruhr pocket, post bulge type play. Each team will be assigned a portion of the property and the Allies will attempt to push the Germans back. There will be a need for each side to maintain a mobile reserve and I imagine the front will ebb and flow due to the size of the playing field. Plenty of opportunities here for road skirmishes, counterattacks, etc. Each side will have a base camp set on the edges of the property. Players hit will regen at base camp and reenter action in groups of two. This will ensure a steady stream of replacements and will also take casualties out of the action in the time it takes to walk back to your base camp and regen. Saturday, August 18th - This is open for discussion. If the ebb and flow front battle of Friday goes well, we can continue it on Saturday or we can discuss other scenarios, capture the flag, etc. We could play numerous different skirmishes on this day. Sunday, August 19th - Breakfast, camaraderie, pictures, etc. - If you want you can fish or swim too. The lake is loaded with fish. - Drive home. The ideas for this event are in their infant stages and will solidify as time goes on. I will post the sides as they develop. Persons interested in attending please PM me so that I can start a roster of the sides. Volksturm and resistance fighters are ok, please try to equip with WWII weaponry and have a decent impression. We own a cabin about five miles from the site and there will be electricity (charge batteries) and running water there. That would also be the place for first aid or rest should any get heat stroke or need to lie down. There is ample parking on the entrance roads. Carpooling would be encouraged. All food would best be left in coolers inside the vehicles. There are critters up north like raccoon, skunk, and yes, bear. They have great noses and no one should have food by their campsites at night. Also, a good reason for guard duty. I don't think this will be a huge problem with the number of persons that might show but keeping the food in the vehicles will limit the skunk and raccoon incursions. August is a beautiful time up north - The weather is at its best (usually) - See you there

Directions - From Milwaukee - take US41 north towards Fonddulac. Stay on US41 past Oshkosh, Neenah, and Menasha. As you enter the Appleton area look for OO (Northland Avenue) and exit US41 - head east. You will go about a half of a mile to a second set of lights which is Lynndale Drive. Turn left and head North on Lynndale Drive. Take it for several miles. Eventually it turns into County Trunk A and it runs into State Highway 47. Turn left onto 47 and continue North. You'll take 47 to State Highway 29 and when you get to 29 turn left and head west. You'll drive about 6 miles and you'll see a sign for Shawano which is business 29 and highway 47/55. Turn off and head into Shawano on that exit. When you exit, turn right and follow 47 thru the town of Shawano to the town of Keshena. At the north end of Keshena, turn right and take State Highway 55 and go North. You'll stay on 55 and you'll drive thru the rest of Menomonee County which is where Keshena is and then you'll drive thru Langlade county which is adjacent to Forest County. You'll eventually get to Pickerel, WI and a small Citgo gas station. 55 intersects with County Trunk DD. Take it. Turn right and follow DD for several miles. You'll pass Pickerel Lake Road, and Crane lake Road and you'll get to County Trunk Q. It sneaks up on you after you pass Crane lake road so watch for it. You turn left onto Q and follow Q for about 2 miles. If you pass Lily Lake Road on your right then you are doing good. On your right you'll see a sign and a map of "Crawford Lake Estates." You'll be playing on lots one and two. The first road is the town road - keep going - you'll see a green gated road next on your right and the third driveway on your right enter.. You're there. Walk in until you find us.

Just to clarify a few things. The need for bio-bb's is due to my deed restrictions. I can't become a nuisance and spraying plastic everywhere would open me up to that charge. The lot lines are not distinct in the middle of a forest and I'm certain that some pb's will cross lines in the heat of battle. If anyone asks I want to be able to say that they'll be gone in a year or so. So I am going to have to insist on biodegradable. I'll buy extra and have them on hand for those who might not the time to get them. (I'll sell them at my cost.) Also, porta-potties will be there for the same reason. Even though I currently have no neighbors, the owner's group still could complain as they are still carving out roads and lots. I want to ensure trouble-free play and a long life for this parcel. I hope folks can clear their schedules and attend for some or all of the event. See you there.

Wow, that sounds awesome! I recall you guys talking about this on the 6th and 7th. Is there any chance of you guys providing pictures of the property? However, that's about 10 hours from here and with school starting up on the 15th...no go for me.

That isn't bad for me, it's only a hour and a half drive. I think I could make this event. Bad news is, I have no airsoft rifle.

Glider, don't worry about a gun. I think you are going as 9th SS and 9th SS takes care of its own. We (EJ and EJ2) have a spare mauser for you.

Would love to attend your event, but I have a live-fire demonstration that I committed to that Saturday.
Good idea on the bio bbs. Let's face it, it's just the right thing to do.
Where are you able to find bio bbs? I've not been able to find any of the bioval bbs and my readings thus far indicate that they are the only truly biodegradable bb.

Here are some photos of the play area. Right now interest is kinda low and that's not good but there is time before the event. If you are thinking about going let Ersatzjack2 know in a PM. I think he'll be ready to answer those again tomorrow. Also to be done via PM is arranging for car pools, bemoaning the fact that you can't afford a $120 German gun for the event, bemoaning the fact that school is starting and you wanna come but can't. Let's keep any public posts about the event more positive than I'm sounding right now, okay? I plan to take a couple of days off before the event so we can get the grounds in top shape. Two camp areas one for each side) cleaned up and whatnot. The photos show summer and spring shots. About biodegradable PB's - just get the kind you can get. I'm not mandating a particular type. I just wanna be able to say they will eventually degrade. Later... when a super biodegradable is out there and readily available then that will be the one to get. I should have a new Mauser for the event I hope. The next few months I'm real busy with work and Reserves but should be able to finish it. I can't wait to show off the next one. Here are the pics: Summer shot of us on the new road to Franz's lake lot. Said lake lot Spring picture of a secondary road (snowmobile trail) Spring pic of a main road. This has been improved and is wider and smoother. The clearing in the spring. Again the road is much nicer now and the clearing is the only real open area on the 68-acres. Well this is all I have for now. Work on getting yourselves ready and we'll see if we can't get another event in this summer.

For people in the Western Suburbs who can make it. I have a vehicle that can carry up to 7 people and their gear. (normally 9, but with gear, I doubt it). Between myself and 1 passenger that leaves 5 seats for people interested and live west of Chicago. Throw a little gas money my way (less for every passenger I get) and the seat is yours.

If I have a car by then, then I could help to drive some people. Thats a very big IF though. In fact, Charlie, if you want, I have a GPS we could use if we are car pooling. Makes everything sooooooo much easier. I think I can attend that weekend.

UPDATE -
Well, I'm back from up north and I dropped off 200 sandbags. The event is shaping up like this so far for sides.
Axis
9th SS Ersatzjack Ersatzjack2 (we'll both be there earlier than Thursday prepping the field and plan on being there for the whole event.)
17th SS Rotten Ole Fuhrer Franz (plans on showing for Friday nite)
more from this unit may attend - it's in the works as of now
Allies
45th I.D. Tagg (PFC Whitrock) attending starting Thursday Guitarmaster (plans on all four days) will attach to this unit Phantom 12321 attending starting Thursday Spitfire 740 (plans on attending) needs ride Airborne noncom502 (plans on attending)
Glider? plans on attending but I don't know with what unit (pm me)
2nd Rangers Cpl Mills Tom
As you can see from the list I need more information. First I need all attending to give me their expected arrival date, their unit name and what they want to be called for the event. E.g. my brother and I go by Otto and Franz but a guy like Tagg uses PFC Whitrock for events. Let me know what I should be typing in these threads. Second, some of you still haven't pm'ed me and I would like you to do that so I can figure out if you are really coming, what impression, etc.
Lastly, we need more players. C'mon guys - don't spend hundreds (thousands) on your gear and get wet feet over a tank of gas. How many events are there in a year?

Arrgh! I was talking to my mother about this event and I could go...but due to school starting up on the 15th, there's no way I can attend. She was going to visit a friend who lives in WI if it worked out. Now I just made myself sad by looking at those pics of the property.

Geut Gravy...I read the scenarios...capture the Flag?...oh noes I hope this doesnt turn to a paintball event. How about the allies objectives are to push the germans out? Anything but paint games!

hold the flag turns into one of the most amazing games we ever played. It's more like a "Hold this position" idea, but it's fun either way you mark it.
It also seems to lead to Jeff getting shot by both teams

I'll think about the scenarios more when the teams are more filled out. It doesn't make much sense to think about scenarios until the numbers are clearer. I think I said in my initial post that I liked the idea of a front with continual regeneration at a base camp until one side pushes the other back to the field's borders. If we don't get more axis, that could be real quick.

Eh charlie...no matter what you call it unless theres significance in raising a flag on the enemies turf...it loses the realism we try to portray. So I say just stick with the simulation games...And I agree with otto, we shouldnt worry about it until we get numbers...
