Well I figure since no one else made one yet, I'll start this up. Since I was the camera man and was playing the sniper, I took as many photos and video footage as I could, so sorry if there is not much to see. The Brothers, Udo, and I all enjoying a wonderful meal, of course the only photo of me I look like a dork. Udo holding one of gryphon's PPSH, and from the looks of it he wants one. Other good one of Udo and the MG42. The MG42, what a lollipops !!! The fearsome Russians, I fell in with 'em later since there was alot more Germans. In between the first and second match I took this quick one of my rifle. Troy and Todd-gryphon-planning the next assualt. At the bar after a long day of fighting. More from the bar. My personal favorite, Udo's big coffee pot. Thank you again to the brothers and sorry if you didn't see yourself in the photos, and I'll get the video as soon as I can. Oh also I have some more pictures, but I'll post them later also.

Nice job on the photos Alban. Gryphon already responded on the other thread but I've asked that comment be moved here. Here are my meager photo offerings. I would have had more, but my camera froze up. But we (myself and my brother) got new 3rd PzGr avatars out of it at least. Advertising at two road points leading to the event. Troy was the sign maker. He donated the signs to us. What a guy. A great way to delineate property boundaries German sleeping area Before and.... After. It will be getting a total facelift for April. It functions like a charm but I still want it to look better. The event had some good and some bad. As organizers we would have liked more participation so obviously we were disappointed that more folks didn't show up and that was the bad part. My photo guy had car problems and couldn't make it and 5-others had to cancel their plans to attend for various reasons. The good part was that everyone that canceled told us one way or the other and that was considerate. We appreciated that. Okay, the good now. Which BTW overshadows any bad was that the remaining players were a hardy group. We had 11 players. The entire 3rd Panzergrenadier unit (those that had committed to coming showed up. That gave us six Germans and on Saturday, Kroger arrived which made seven. Four Russians, led by Gryphon and ba64 (Todd and Troy) arrived and the fight was on. To even things up we had a volunteer fight along with the Russians for a five to six player ratio. Since a known weather front was coming in on Saturday we got right into the fighting after the safety/chrono/waiver business was gotten out of the way. Alban was the biggest FPS hound on the field with a 517FPS sniper rifle and I think the meekest weapon chrono'd in at 310FPS. What I particularly liked was that we only had one modern weapon and it was wrapped in a sheet for camo and everyone had a presentable airsoft WWII impression. The events were exceptionally exciting. No re-spawns for the defenders and unlimited for the attackers. But the Russians attacked during two of the skirmishes and didn't need many re-spawns I'm sad to say. They are stealthy fighters for sure. Very effective use of probing and then reconstituting their attack in force. The terrain was really interesting. Dips and rises that allowed attackers to close without too much observation. The heavy snow cover meant that the roads were important but if you were willing to low crawl through snow you could go right through the lines. The Ruski's got behind us once using that method I think. They really impressed me. Two skirmishes were Russian v German and the third was the sniper match where the three Mausers and MG42 took on the remaining 7 attackers. That was an embarrassing battle for the sniper team. On the defense with 3 rifles and an MG and zero kills. All four of us died. The advantage went to youth and stamina in the wintry conditions. We took some time to do staged video too which we plan to use to grow our units. We plan to start a website for the Midwest Ostfront group which will seek participants for the 3rd Panzergrenadiers and 198th Russian Rifle Division and hopefully down the road, this will encourage higher turnout. Afterall, with us having access to two plots of land and Troy having his farm in Neillsville there should be roughly four events yearly that we could pull off without too much trouble. Stay tuned for more information on this development. The world premieres were the Ppsh-41 battle debut. Gryphon had two ready for use. His prototype and a scraped together version. Neither was the model he was selling to the public (those are nicer with the bugs worked out) but they both performed well in tough conditions and gave us Germans fits. Our MG42 (courtesy of burt from airsoftcorner) worked flawlessly too and in the first skirmish probably did it's worst damage of the day as about six Russians died trying to advance up the road against it's sandbagged emplacement. They gave up on that and found that flanking the positions yielded the results they were after. All-in-all a very fun day of battle. Everyone except one showed on Friday so the camping angle was covered and the Russians got the heated cabin while the Germans made do with a heated basement. The weather held off long enough to get our skirmishing in and around 3pm the Alberta Clipper started bringing in the -16 F temperatures and high winds. (This occurred gradually into the night) but it was enough to send us all looking for hamburgers and refreshments before we bid everyone a safe journey home. Next event should be on 12 April in Neillsville but that's not official. Just in case anyone wants a ball park figure. ba64 will have to make it official. At that event a couple more premieres will be unveiled. Sorry, just couldn't get them done in time for this one. More to look forward to I say. Like Alban's videos. ;D As announced, only the bio-180 bb's were allowed and they worked great. No mis-feeds that I know about (at least that were bb related) and that meant for me that I didn't mind folks spraying and praying. We'll see in a year what I think about them but I like how they work. Finally, thanks to all who came and played. You were all well behaved and good sports. My parents even commented favorably (senior senior citizens) and they are fussy so we did something right. One last thing - the Russian sign shown above in Alban's post says "Russian Third Infantry Division." Ulrich, who is a native speaker translated it. Don't know why you all need to know that but I thought I'd tell you. It's kinda coincidental that we are the third too.

I know I’ve been saying it… but I really need to schedule in a trip out your way! It is the least I can do to repay all the trips you guys have made so far. Who knows, maybe some of the 3rd FJ will tag along with me…

Majorray, you guys are always welcome, you know that. I still haven't gotten back from Nashville and went west to drop off the Pak for repairs and a refit for April. Still got a 4 hour drive south to Jackson. Thoughts on the event:
Had a great time! I used to think that the Russians were uncouth barbarians but then I went to the cabin after they had left and found it to be spotless. Beds made, garbage collected, tidy, and not one bb on the carpet or the floors. How considerate! Thanks guys. The weather was pretty swell and there was tons of snow. Ironically the Germans were better protected from the elements than the Russians. While the Russians sported excellent winter coats and hats, their trousers weren't wool and their boots soaked up the snow and cold water. I know one hearty Russian who didn't complain and who wrung his socks out over the cabin stove and they were just dripping with water. Tough. Some of the Germans had cold feet but nothing like that. Once again, there were no injuries at the event and that is always a plus. Gryphon's ppsh's worked wonderfully and fortunately did not overwhelm the battlefield. Sportsmanship was excellent and spirits were high. Looking forward to the video as I know some of it will be very entertaining. Hope to see more players next time. Winter events are awesome. Having played in NY in December and now again in this event, I believe they are worth the discomforts. It's a trade off you know. No bugs, better visibility, great photo ops all make it worthwhile.
Interesting battle moment - myself, ersatzjack, neoptolemus, and Ulrich were retreating down a road after the fall of our brethen, Udo and Kroger and their MG-42 position. All of a sudden Ersatzjack (who was running forward at point) cried out in German for a medic and fell to the ground. Ba-64 (Troy) had worked himself completely around our defensive positions and had all four of us in his sights. He shot again at very close range at the second target (Neo) but missed and Neoptolemus shot back at the sound not really seeing Ba-64 who was crouched low in the slopeline. His brave and instant reactions to the ambush saved the rest of us from my brother's fate and had served to ruin Troy's almost perfect ambush.
Finally, thanks to those who attended. Our friends, the 198th Russian Rifle Division, the 11th Panzer Division, and to our Minnesota and Illinois members that made the trek. See you guys in April at Neillsville.

oooh man! i really can't wait to finish my impressions now! that looks awesome! too bad i'm not 18 yet though. i'd be able to get out a lot more than. which brings me to this point. is there any airsofters/WWII themed events pretty close to kansas? i know ripper lives here, but i don't know about anybody else. and since i'm only 16, and can't really travel several states over on my own (parents wouldn't let me) i really need to find some people here to do an event. i don't own any land, i have a friend who owns 5 acres, but that's surely not enough. if anybody's out there, i'm all ears. i would love to be in an event within the next year, but i don't know what my options are. i know a lot of guys are near chicago, but again, that's quite a distance for somebody who's only a sophmore in high school to drive.

Thanks much to Otto and Franz for a great event. This will catapult us into the Spring season and a great event in Neilsville. I arrived at the site around 5:00 PM on Friday as I don't like driving around in the dark trying to find a new place. It was pleasing to be greeted by Otto, Franz and Alban, who were already in full kit surveying the land. They led me to our accommodations for the evening, a spacious heated basement. I'm all for being hardcore, but with at least two feet of snow on the ground and cool temperatures, this was no time to be camping outside. The Soviets had really nice digs in a very quaint-heated cabin. Otto and Franz's parents were kind enough to treat us to a home cooked meal of chicken, rice and cake. So far so good. Well fed and warm, there would be no excuses for poor performance on the field of valor on Saturday. The Soviets arrived around 10:00 PM and we were able to get a first hands on glimpse of Gryphon's PPSh prototypes. They are absolutely beatiful and have a great feel to them. If I wasn't such a German nut, I'd consider putting together a Russian impression just so I could carry one of these fine pieces. Karl and Ulrich arrived from Madison and Chicago respectively at about 2:00 AM, waking us from our slumber, but we were pleased to have them join us. Once again, we were able to survey another project as Ulrich is converting one of the new dboys K98s into a non-cartridge feeding springer. I was impressed by the relative quality of gun and just recently ordered one of the wooden versions for possible conversion. It's great that the market is finally pumping out good guns at an affordable price. Jimmy from the 11th Panzergrenadier arrived in the morning and at 7:00 AM we began to assemble for the day's first skirmish. I was unbelievably pumped as I was given the honor of manning the ersatz brothers' new custom AEG Shoei MG42. Thanks a lot guys for letting me use your gun. It was a blast. The Russians were a bit short of numbers as winter colds had take their toll and some weren't able to attend, so we gave the Soviets Alban and his scoped K98 to help even things up. Given the results of most of our skirmishes, I'm not sure that was necessary The first scenario took place in a wooded grove flanked by roads on both sides. The Soviets had to take a sandbagged position with unlimited respawns whereas the Germans were done once eliminated. The weather was absolutely fantastic. I had some nice "magic moments" awaiting the assault with the MG42 while big fluffy snowflakes dropped to the ground in what can only be described as a dreamy-winter wonderland. The Russians began to probe our position but were quickly kept at bay by a hail of bbs from the MG42. After scoring 5 or 6 kills with the MG, we were certain that the Russians would try something new, so we decided to move the MG out of our sandbagged position and reinforce our left flank, were we falsely assumed the next attack would take place. Instead, the Soviets steadfastly crept forward until they were in SMG range and hit us in the same spot in force. This quickly overwhelmed us and they were successful in taking the first position. They did so, however, at a pretty high cost. The second scenario was essentially a continuation of the first, with the Russians now attacking from our old positions to take yet another sand bagged position. This position did not have as advantageous of a field of fire as the last, but we decided to deploy the MG in this position while the rest of the team deployed to our rear. We did a poor job of protecting our flanks and Gryphon and Ba64 (Todd and Troy) crept through a gap in our coverage and assaulted our position from the rear. It was a fantastic success and the sound of bbs bouncing off the back of my helmet was the first indication that we had been completely outclassed. Having eliminated the MG very early on, the Soviets now had the uneasy task of cleaning out the rest of our men, which I was not present for as a dead man, but it doesn't sound like it went nearly as well for them. The third and final scenario pitted everybody against a defensive position of three springer rifles and the MG42. I handed the MG42 to Franz for this scenario and grabbed my rifle so he could get some time on the new toy. This was the fastest scenario of the day as the overwhelming numbers surround us and attacked in a highly coordinated manner. We were all quickly eliminated without scoring a single kill. The lesson to be learned from this is that snow cover gives the advantage to movement and rapid fire. Foliage and good cover is a must if one wants to have a fighting chance with a springer. Everybody had a great time and there were no arguments, disagreements or tense moments. The games were all safe, with zero incidents, and everybody acted like perfect gentlemen. We spent the remainder of the afternoon playing with the PAK and shooting some staged videos. To me the greatest part was that we managed to field some decent numbers at a winter event where the average travel time was at least 4-5 hours. The 3rd Panzergrenadier and 198th Rifle Division consist of highly dedicated, mature and motivated members who will have a lasting impact on the Midwest airsoft scene. I'm really looking forward to warmer weather and a much bigger turnout at the April event in Neilsville. This event has legs! -Udo

Well today as I got back from work the computer has been acting weird and my friend is going to get it back up and running soon. I saved a rough drafted copy of my video on a flash drive before my computer crapped out though. I was going to brush it up but it doesn't look like that will happen for awhile, so as a drink some more of this over priced coffee and upload this from my friend's laptop at Caribou, on to his youtube account, I hope you enjoy it. Again sorry if is low quality, if there are any spelling errors and personally wish it was better. s146.photobucket.com/albums/r244/Lisanders/Ost%20Front%20Event/?action=view¤t=OST.flv

when is the next game? April? but when exactly? We are going to come!!!! Just confirmed with some of the guys here that we can do April!!! If you look above at ba64's post he tells you that he plans on having an event at Neillsville on 12 April 08. They will post more information shortly I believe. This will be a great event as there is a village and more premieres planned. News that you are organizing an expedition is great. The more the merrier. ba64's post above is a sneaky recruiting device. That's how the Ruskies operate. The Russian impression is really affordable and they are good folks and people should consider joining them. I have ulterior motives here and yes, I want a vibrant enemy team. But really, if you are doing US (I know that you aren't majorray) it wouldn't take much to build a Russian impression. Those PPsh-41's are a good reason to build one too.

Hello From The Appleton WI. area. I have just started to familiarize myself with WW2Airsoft. I just saw the pictures from your last event and thought I would say it looks like a lot of fun. I am a WWII German military collector so I am familiar with the subject, but not so much about airsoft. I am wondering how I could attend an event and if there is someone to contact? I do not currently own an airsoft gun, but I have done much research on the subject. However I am holding off until I find out more, reliability, performance, etc.
