Have you tried ordering from k-var?
I find they have all the bits I need for my AK projects.

if you want genuine Russian hand guards, you could either pay a premium and buy from Tantal, or you could contact Fido on Red-Alliance. He has a real talent for getting obscure parts.

Nice. I've heard that many russian specials in afghanastan used tennis/running shoes, was this something moderately widespread or something just overdone by reenactors?

No it was really widespread trougth the Soviet military , even recently in the Chechnya operations you see a lot of Russian Federation soldiers wearing Adidas tennis shoes , just look at the feet of some of the troops on this video. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kC8S3COqNzw

*Rockin' out to that music video*
huh cool, I just didn't know if it was something actually done widespread or a shortcut for reenactors to wear some cooler "kicks" (as the kids are calling them these days).

If reenactors want to wear tennis shoes , make sure to tell them they have to wear Adidas tennis shoes , or else they are being Flaggrantly Wrong

Well I decided to try the 'RIT Dye' method of achieving plum-ness of my AK furniture- I had used a mix of Krylon to paint the front handgrips, but wasn't entirely happy with that- So I stripped that off and threw all the parts in a boiling vat of RIT 'wine' dye.

Oh Adler, the Adidas the Russians wear are knock offs. There is a brand called "Moscow" which a lot of them favor.
If reenactors are looking for the appropriate shoe, it's the "gazelle" model in the light blue color. That would mimic the style produced by the Soviet Adidas factory best.
Also, did you get your "paratrooper" boots from Red Soldier? If so, I think they are a Splav model which actually isn't a service shoe. MVD might wear it (like the boot made by Garsing they sell), but it's not the actual issue boot.

You lucky git!
If you have the time, could you take some pics of the boots, especially the sole? There was a lot of interest on RA in regards to issue boots, and I'm sure you could help clear the confusion!

This is me: This is me and Ukkolzi: This our SAS team at Falklands: The last pic is unfortunately disturbed by some front-row Tampereans who bunched into our platoon. They have some modern equipment but OUR boys did it good, coming up with a pretty cool a-bit-like-falklands kit built just for one game. Including authentic arctic parkas, patt58 and us M56 webbing, M16 A1s and early carbines, Manchester United knit caps..

My Ghost Recon look: Hunting Taliban. I'm in the middle with the M-14. Wearing my MCCU's on a weekend op. Our Russian team was manning a checkpoint. I'm in a Berezka uniform. I'm in the center. I'm in my British winter set-up with white overparka. The highest temp during the game was 12 degrees F. My early ACU set-up. I need to get some updated pics.

I like your goggles, what kind are those and how much did they run ya? Do you have any fogging trouble?

Those goggles were an industrial design that one of our guys got through his employer. pretty much our whole group used them for a while. They were fully sealed and chemical proof as well as ballistic rated. I wore them for two years and had no fogging issues with them. They eventually got so scuffed up that I couldn't use them and they were retired with full military honors.

Going for It was so cold that I was unable to use my AKS-74 (the harder spring draw made the battery run out faster) and was forced to use a face mask and gloves which kind of ruins the impression.

Ditch that thompson some guys got ahold of Thompsons, but most of the footage i've seen was early war with the thompsons, and I highly doubt a typewriter would make it to nam , Ps: your boots mismatch -Nick
