Yes the magazines are completely different and they aren't transferable.

Hello all, I have been researching this gun for a little while now and have some questions. I have been airsofting for 5 years, and I have owned various pistols, AEG's and gas sniper rifles (tanaka). Right now I want a gun that is fun to use and is not plastic. I am having a hard time choosing between the m2 carbine and the marushin m1 garand. I have heard bad things and good things about the garand, and mostly good things about the carbine. I may choose to do a ww2 kit later, but the banana style mag defeats that doesn't it?

Yes, Technically the banana clip and a few other details essentially make it a post war weapon. In reality no one would probably throw you out of a WW2 event for using one. The appearance however is the least of the rifles problems. Both the Marushin Garand and Marushin M2 carbine have been enormously troublesome and to my knowledge although there are a lot of them out there. No one (not one single person) has been able to use either as a consistent skirmish rifle. The Tanaka Kar 98 and the original self cocking M1 Carbine from Marushin are the only gas rifles I've heard of that folks are able to somewhat capably skirmish with.

Hmm, is the m2 half decent at least? Better than the garand? Are any other companies thinking of making ww2 weapons? Or should i just go with the m2 carbine?

I have heard and personally experienced nothing but bad things from Marushin GBB rifles. Horrible contraptions that make great wall hangers and on the rare occassions where they actually work fun plinkers for a few shots.

I read some reviews online, and people said it was a great rifle. And obviously, they'd be using it in skirmishes. I would allow an M2 into a hypothetical event. Seeing as M1s are discontinued and it's at least debatable whether it is period accurate is enough for me. It seems like you could just sort of screw the bayonet lug off.

The banana clip was used in Korea, just because the M2 saw limited action (maybe) in WWII doesn't mean the banana clip did.
