I have never been happy with paintball masks that make you look like a power ranger, however I have seen several people get teeth shot out by stock guns. I decided to try a new approach that will hopefully appeal to some and inspire them to make their own mask like this. I started with a NFL fan mask off ebay they are made of rubber and have a couple straps that hold it on your head. They will not hold up against bb hits. I then added several coats of an epoxy gel to the outside of the mask to harden it up then painted it with flesh color paint and a charcoal smudge then sprayed several coats of matte clear coat. Once that part is done you need to cover the open mouth section. I used a stainless steel mesh that I have used in the past that is proven to stop BB's I cut it to fit the opening and then sew it in place. I then hot glue all around the edge to cover any sharp points. This is what you end up with. Not everyone will like this or agree but I found it to be useful to me I hope you do as well. Mask by itself on a table: Close up with uniform on: Little further back you can see it doesn't really take away from the impression: Inside so you can see the hotglue around the edge of the mouth.: This weekend I will be game testing it at JTD destiny. I am not sure how much abuse it will stand up to so stay tuned before you dive in and waste time and money.

I'd be more interested in knowing how you hold up to the heat with your face sealed in rubber.

We will see that is why I posted wait to see how it does after I game test it. I am in Florida and it is not unbearable but then lets see how it does once you run around in it. It really is not so all encompasing as to trap all the heat and being able to breath out the mesh where the teeth are probally helps. As to a mouth guard... I hate em.

I think it looks pretty cool. A lot of local players wear the gomer type screen goggles. They work great although they don't protect the teeth and exposed facial skin. One thing that would enhance the way they look would be to paint them flesh colored or OD instead of the blarringly obvious black.
I would guess if you can tolerate the rubber mask in Florida you could tolerate it anywhere.

It reminds me of the facial expressions in the 'Sgt. Rock' comics... Looks cool though.

nice, the charcoal smudge gives it the impression he's been fighting long and hard

With the mask on...you sort of look like a kid who just got braces strapped on and is to embaresed to smile... Honestly though, it is a cool idea. I'm sure it would really help with facial injuries. Two of my friends have had pretty bloody nose shots. Instead of the "war face" perhaps just a plain ol' mouth instead...

I think you need to glue a fake cigar into its mouth, that would be great looking lol

There are plenty of other masks you could use and they can be pretty inexpensive. The new Joker mask from " the Dark Knight", the " "blue men" mask. Use the same technique with any of these and you can have different faces . Good idea! just go to a local costume shop With Halloween a couple months away they're starting to get their shipments in.

It's so.....paintball. Actually people do use the paintball masks but in my opinion they really really detract from the look. It;s nice to see other alternative appoaches. I'm all for safety but if you're going to wear a paintball mask go ahead and don the silver and blue nylon jerseys and tennis shoes with kneee pads.

Did you ever game test it? And I'm really interested in hearing about who and how many people anyone has heard of getting teeth shot out! I've been playing for several years now and that's new to me. So, I may re-think my uber protective shemagh when playing w/ my modern load out (and something/anything for WW2). Thanks!

Yeah, i've seen masks like this, but they were way uglier, and very glossy. I like this, great work!

Is a simple mouth guard effective at mitigating chipped teeth? Seems like it might be worth considering.

Athletic style Mouth guards are effective and smart if you choose not to wear a full face mask. You get ugly wounds on your lip but those heal on their own over time. So what if all the girls think you have herpes

Last game I played in I actually got shot in the mouthguard. Some how or another it didn't even hit my lip. It's scary to think that it would have hit my bare tooth without the protection. On the downside though, no one can understand a word I say with a mouthguard in, and I think my new nickname is mushmouth.
